may want to update the forum (section) title to clarify. it's been an issue for a while, even tho it's logical


also sorry to burst your bubble, but you don't pile up ideas, grab people and lead a romhacking project like this, let alone out of nowhere.

ideas are mostly useful when making games. for romhacking, you have to try out stuff on your own then give attempts at solid, feasible ideas.
there's both restrictions and difficulty involved.

here, you're trying to recruit people to do something that may not even be possible for mere romhacker hobbyists.


anyway this whole board is centered around NSMBDS hacking, so I doubt you'll find anyone.
the boards for nsmbu/nslu hacking are now gone, so I can't redirect you.

that, and asking again anywhere else will most likely give you the same results.

Staple and RicBent don't like Discord so NSMBHD will stick to IRC (that 1988 thing which is limited to ASCII characters and is complicated as hell)

seeing how you sum it up to this, I could say the same about you. everyone basically said there's no need for a discord and especially one ran by some random member.

meanwhile, ndymario's point is that he isn't some random nobody. turns out he isn't staff either.
it's standard procedure to consult the staff beforehand, rather than throwing in a thread with links. if there really was benefit having a discord, the staff would have started one.

this didn't deserve drama, but it wouldn't have worked out.


you see this sort of thing often now.
since just anybody can start a discord and title it after anything, nembies are tempted to to start discords for forums. but then, what's the point of having forums in the first place?

I admire your devotion to this.

I'm not too fond of the graphics, but I guess there's not much you can do. You're trying, alone, to recreate 3D stages into 2D. Even putting graphics aside you can't do much, especially in the case of Odyssey.

Honestly, Odyssey-related hacks won't get far IMO.
3D hacks would just be a downgrade of the actual game, and 2D hacks will most likely turn out wierd and somewhat bland. Because it's not actual 2D level design, just recreation of 3D stages.

Anyway, I have a question. Is the whole hack going to be a recreation of the Odyssey stages? Because if it's just one or two levels, honestly it's no big deal.

Sorry if I'm disappointing you with all I said, but critism is important.

SM63 had a lot of freedom compared to NSMB.
And honestly, SM64 has a stage design that simply works in 2D if done well (peach's castle being a good example). I can't say the same for Odyssey.
You can't just pick something refined for 3D to that extent and expect it to work in 2D.

NSMB2 grassland? I'm pretty sure I have a version of it with all the slopes availables, either lying around exported or inside whatever ROM. should I look for it?


oh yeah and IMO, just "super mario star (DS)" sounds better than New_Super_Mayro_Bros._Stars_DS_&knuckles_longass_title

your image throws a 403 error. the embed fails as well.

the tile being part of Jyotyu shouldn't mess up anything, but remember the empty tiles are pipe tiles.


as for the title UI,
UI_O_menu_title_o_d_ncg.bin, d_2d_UI_O_menu_title_o_d_ncl.bin
and
UI_O_menu_select_o_d_ncg.bin, d_2d_UI_O_menu_select_o_d_ncl.bin


please look around the files on your own before to ask.

.....you didn't make it. you grabbed nintendo's backgrounds, recolored the clouds and slapped them onto eachother. that will never tile right. why do you think backgrounds are separate in the original game? they all use a limited set of tiles.

I'm sorry, but your background is unusable.

just look around in the /obj/ folder. I recall it's very easy to find.

also in general I recommend opening all the graphic files in the folders that interest you, such as UIstudio, polygon_unit and /obj/. that way you know where stuff is already, you don't have to clutter the board with questions.

you don't have to stop. you did nothing wrong so far.

and you have no reason to get banned unless you steal something or act rude. I gave harsh but true feedback because I feel you can do better than that.

and yeah, many people copy stuff across a single background due to the limited set of tiles. but what you did is just lazy.
also you're copying the same bit across several sizes so that defeats the point of saving tiles.

Well, I do read through. It's just... well idk. I think I actually lack completely understanding.

you might want to learn proper CSS, then. it's useful knowledge since CSS is the styling used for any page ever. it's easy to learn in general, you should turn out just fine.

I see you fixed the ID and image URL earlier, it's a good start. green font was a little weird though.

in our terms, Overworld (meaning over-ground) is the stage theme. Underground is the inverted meaning, for below-ground stages.

anyway, here's your comission. I used the overworld (CHIJOU_CONT) sound slot and didn't force the 'snow theme' aspect, rather simply made it nice to listen to.

regardless of which slot you insert it in, use the CHIJOU_CONT SBNK and SWAR for it.

I can only tell you used the wrong pipe exit entrance. change the exit type to match the direction of the exit pipe.

back ontopic, if you're planning to edit the mario model..
for a penguin suit, a mere retexture will just look odd considering mario's shape won't change.

replacing the body model with a custom one hasn't been done yet, either. the head is easily done but the body is trickier.
the body model has many animations so good luck getting everything to match.

on the map16, move the first four tiles on the first and second row to another spot. the reason for it is because tiles to be randomized go there.
