Well sorry we can't magically make the editor as user-friendly as Mario Maker.

And sorry we can't own Nintendo and have total control over NSMB's content, too.

Step 2:

You’ll need from out of the NSMB DS rom all the extracted files that are in the sound_data.sdat file which you can get using the NDS Editor. Bare in mind, you will need to re-organize the files around before compiling it back up; or you can use the modified sound_data folder (get your copy here) which already does all that for you. You can read more about it in the LAST MINUTE INFORMATION section.

=======================================================

III. LAST MINUTE INFORMATION
=======================================================

I would like to conclude this guide with some last minute information relating to a lot of the stuff this guide has covered.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. The modified sound_data folder and its use for the NDS Editor
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I first started using the NDS Editor to hack NSMB DS, I kept running into a problem where the sound and music would completely mess up every time I replaced the games original sound_data.sdat file with one that I compiled; even when no changes were ever made to the compiled file. What had happen is the program would compile a new sound_data.sdat file, putting each of the file formats (*.sseq/*.ssar/*.sbnk/*.ssar/*.bin) back into their designated folder but in alphabetical order instead of in the listed order they were in originally. The files would then be renamed to reflect the listed order they were in originally even though the name doesn’t match the actual file; this can be seen when browsing through content of the sound_data.sdat file using the NDS Editor. So I started re-arranging all the files in the sound_data folder; renaming them (you can do this with/without the file extension) so that everything would go in the order it was supposed to be in once compiled and it worked. For those of you who don’t want to go through the hassle of making your own sound_data folder, I’ve provided a copy of this modified sound_data folder so that you can compile your own *.sdat file with ease.

Get your copy of the modified sound_data folder here.

Did you use a modified sound_data folder?

I'm quoting this part again as everyone seems to miss it. Treeki renamed all the files for you, and all the musics works all fine.

Nope. It's not. Check by yourself, the only thing modified are the file names. 01, 02, 03..

I've been using it for years. It's a different thing than the music hack he released.

I've just spent 4+ hours renaming all of the files to match the numbers from the sound_data_smap. Thankfully, it now plays sound! Thanks KingYoshi for finally troubleshooting the silencing.

The downside though, is that the sequences are all muddled up. For example, world 2's map now plays a desert soundfont version of the Bowser Jr theme. I have no idea what's gone wrong since I followed the numbering down to pinpoint accuracy.

Has anyone else ever had this problem, and is there a way to fix it? If so, I'll make sure to upload the renumbered sound folder for public use once it's fixed, since we really really need one...

Treeki did this already and released a copy he linked in the tutorial twice..

A blue 'E'

How wierd, I see a e, but no 'E'.

Also I can't find a download for the app that fixes the sky so I painted my roof blue instead.

Well there may be only one level for now, but if you read the thread title carefully, it seems he means that level to be part of his upcoming project.

I'm interested in the most important needs of people, so I decided to make a poll about it.

Needs? I see none in the poll.

Did you perchance make all these codes using the same overlays multiple times? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if you keep editing them without ever switching to a unedited one, it may be the cause..

Half of your codes doesn't work for me it seems, by the way. Regardless if I decompress the overlay properly or put the whole ROM in the hex editor.

Edit: Sorry, I meant I can't ever find the values to search in the ROM for those.

If you use MKDSe, you can split the .nsbmd into a untextured .nsbmd and a .nsbtx. Then, after putting both back together into a new .nsbmd you will replace the old one with, you will be able to edit it without encountering the error, no matter what NSMBe revision you're using.

To extract/replace the old .nsbmd you fail opening, close and reopen NSMBe, then don't try editing/hex editing the file. Thus, you won't have 'edited' the file, and won't get the 'File is already being edited' error when extracting/replacing the .nsmbd.

I didn't test with every of the files, but it seems to work flawlessly.

I might add map_dragon.nsbmd?

I think the only way is using spikes. The side that doesn't hurt can't be walljumped on either.

I used it many times.

Switch from Internet Explorer to something better. Or else ignore it.

From what I see on the screenhot, it seems to seriously lack coins, enemies, and could of afford a fiew more hole and maybe solid-on-top platforms.

...

How come I read it 'New Super Mario Bra 2'?

One good example of a pair of BGs that doesn't fit (the top BG is too dark compared to the bottom one, and this applies to many of your levels).

Doesn't look much like ash particles at all, thus doesn't really fit.

How about we make the topic to be about choosing what that thread's topic will be?

Unless it's already been done?

The placeholder tiles for animated textures can be seen for a split second before the animation shows up if they are visible from the starting point in the level.

(my apologies if my english is incorrect here)

World 7: It kind of looks like a Para-Beatle over some clouds. I guess that was originally going to be their first appearance?

Lolno. I'm pretty sure they didn't exist yet. And um, if you look close enough, all it looks like is a cloud and its shadow.

Exes, which are written for Windows, cannot run natively on Ubuntu, Mac and such.

You can try Wine, but I can't garantee it will work.

Edit: Or else, maybe this.

You're going to have to edit the first post a million times.

Hit Super-toad 65, heal MarioFanatic64.

EDIT: You didn't state the rules properly, you should have no right to randomly remove 5 points from someone.

..why "New super mario bros. Sorry, NOTHING"?

Because that was the first contest's winner.

Yes it was. Because the main people's answer was basically 'what the heck, you don't need us to think of a name.

This is just my opinion, but.. this poll, as well as the previous one, is just stupid.

FILESYSTEM/banner.bin

The game's icon.

and

root/ipl/d_2d_new_mario.ncg.bin
root/ipl/d_2d_new_mario.ncl.bin

One of them is the real game's icon, the other is the icon that displays in the DS/DSi/whatever menu. Both are identical.

Though you will need to compress the second one before editing (both the image and pallet), and decompress them back after editing.

The reason there are two is the DS's limitation. Making it use two separate files with the same identical image can be easier than forcing the home menu to load a image type it cannot load.

I never got to make sure which is which. Best is to edit both.
