The Koopa is avoidable on the way down too. The Donut lifts let you down gently and let you have control over Mario, unlike being shot up (via pipe cannon), which causes temporary vulnerability.

I think  Hiccup means if you go back down and shoot yourself up again. Or does it unload?

This is finally the last screenshot of the tropical biome of Endless Earth. I decided to "Mario Maker it" and place some Piranha Plants underwater. In this area, we have a small obstacle course with pipe bubbles. The trick is to time it right to avoid getting hurt.

So it's an automatic stage, then?

I was told to come ask this here, so here goes nothin! is that music in the beginning cutscene custom, or is it from a game, because I absolutly love it, and if possible I would love a link to it, that is if you don't mind giving it to me

Ehh, sounds like Mario Galaxy 2 or something...

It doesn't seem to horribly out of place.

Mario Kart 7 did it before and it doesn't look weird.

Underwater piranha plants aren't non-canon or anything. They appeared in SMBTLL and NSMBW.

Pic of the Week - Week 78

Yay, variety. This pic doesn't say much in itself, other than that I've started properly on the underground/haunted portion of the overworld map.

Total overworld progress has skyrocketed to 48% in just a few short weeks. From here on in, I'm aiming to achieve 10% of the overworld per month, assuming progress hits 50% completion by this time next week. That means that the overworld will be complete by the end of 2016, so I'll finally be able to show you all how it looks.

Of course, even after that is done, there's still a lot to do. I need to playtest and bugfix the entire map (which, trust me, is going to prove extra brain-melting), and there's still the fortresses and the Toad network, and I also need to work on the map screen, (which as you may have seen is in no condition currently to be presented professionally).

I know I said I wouldn't update the jyotyu tileset because it would require re-plotting the digital map I've been working on, but I'm now thinking of waiting until the map is finished and then updating jyotyu, among any other graphics that I feel have lost their charm. While the jyotyu tiles in the map won't be accurate to the in-game world, the map will still be accurate to the design of the world and the tiles will still be consistent.

For your jyotyu problem for the guide map: You can probably use imagemagick or something like that to replace certain groups of pixels with other groups. You'll need to research how to do this though (imagemagick manual might be a start).

Mario's adventure has finally led him into the caves of Endless Earth. Somewhere in this intricate cave system is one of Bowser's own fortresses.

This week, overworld progress reached 50%! I'm going to try and stick to a monthly quota from here on out. If I stick to it, let's just say that the Holiday trailer will have a 'big' reveal. My next milestone is 75% progress, which I should be able to reach in October. Wish me luck!

Another theme that's new to Endless Earth, found deep underground. I've been calling this place 'The Core' for about two years now, but it's only now that I've made sufficient progress on it to reveal. I'm really excited to design areas for a fire/rock based environment.

Ohh! This looks wonderful! I always enjoy fire/lava type of levels, they're always fun to play!

I might spend hours just walking around there.

The U Lava Tileset really fits with NSMB's Volcano BG.

I'll be entirely honest - maybe some newer area themes? I doubt you've shown them all and that there almost definitely are some newer area/world themes, but at the moment if I recall correctly you haven't really shown any brand new world themes that haven't already been done in the NSMB series.

Although I might be missing something here, which I almost definitely am :\

Perhaps gears and factory stuff in the lava tileset?

I'll try to give the Fortresses a little more unique flair, but the overworld itself is made up of all natural environments- fields, caves, beaches, oceans, mountains, snow, fire, desert, forest, etc.

But if you can come up with a natural environment that hasn't been done in Mario games before, be my guest.

EDIT: Oh, and yes, there is still more to show. The final segment of the overworld (which is unlocked at the end of the game) has a special theme too.

And just because environments use well-known themes, doesn't mean they can't be unique.
And MarioFanatic64 has used some lesser used themes, like the NSMB2-esque "inside tree" sections .
