Indeed, wise words, in conclusion we can say that Discord is better for communicating and the forum is better for retaining information that people can easily search like Thierry said, and no, the forum isn't dying, it's just not as active as before, sometimes I take look at here when I need specific information, tutorials or assets for my hack, and nostalgia as well.

Also, Thierry, why don't you join to the Discord too? Would be nice if you were there

NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 TOTEM POLE TILESET

Sorry for the bump, and I know  poudink already made a Totem Tileset, but his Tileset has restricted SubNohara and this new Tileset has more objects, with all the respect in the world to poudink and without any desire to discredit his work , also, sorry if the Tileset looks messy

DOWNLOAD HERE, uses 2 palettes. Credits to ploaj and The Spriters Resources.

In my personal opinion, both Discord and NSMBHD have their positive and negative sides, communicating on Discord is more comfortable and faster, but you can also do some cool stuff on this website (like customizing your layout) it's just that both Discord and NSMBHD have a different essence, at the end of the day, it's up to people which one they prefer more, and we can't force people to join Discord if they don't want to. I feel like there's nothing we can do to "revive" this forum, some people lose interest on NSMB modding and other people simply want to dedicate to their personal hobbies and aspirations in life, and that's completely understandable, as long as we continue to inspire and help people who are new to this, I guess that's all that matters

The latest versions of NSMBe allow you to edit the game icon directly from the editor, go to the ROM File Browser Tab, double click on "banner.bin", then click on "view in 4pbb format" and there you can import an image of the icon you want the game to have by clicking on "import this bitmap and recreate palette", the image size must be 32x32.

If you want to edit the game title and the developublisher, you can follow this tutorial here.

There's also this tool that allows you to edit both the title and the icon from any DS game you want

Anyway, click here to download it, the download was also added to the first post, enjoy!!

Oh, and btw, for those who have played the demo I just want you to know that the special gift password is the same as in the previous version

Thanks for your honest review  alpha, I can fix some of these issues, I do agree that the grassland and castle tilesets don't go well together, I guess it's because mixing NSMBU and DS tilesets it's not a good idea at all, lol, and as for the overworld theme, I didn't make it,  crook made it, and considering it uses Newer DS sounfont, I don't think it'll be really necessary to change all the sound effects just because of a single song .

On the other hand, I know it's just constructive criticism, but I don't really see how you can dislike a whole hack just because of a few graphical issues, but in any case I can fix some of them if necessary.

Again, thanks for your feedback and have a nice day

If your backgrounds are poor quality in NSMBe it's very likely that they have too much details, backgrounds in NSMB are made of a certain amount of tiles, if your custom background exceeds that amount of tiles, NSMBe will try to reduce them causing some quality loss, the best ways I know of improving their quality is making your background less detailed, more repetitive and try to avoid gradients, a technique I recommend is reducing your bg size to 256x256, copy and paste it in the remaining space.

iirc, some backgrounds in Super Mario: Endless Earth were tiled manually, hence why they're high quality

Imma be honest, I don't think the forum should be closed/archived just because the Discord is more active, as mentioned before, here's a lot of useful information, the board is more accesible and not everyone wants to join Discord, I mean, I really like the NSMB Central server and yeah, it's more active, but imo that doesn't sound like a valid reason for closing the board.

Also, I'm really sad to hear you'll be retiring Thierry, you've been doing a really great job all these years and we all appreciate everything you've done for this community :')

I personally disagree with archiving the board, what would be the point of that? Archiving the forum would be like throwing away more than 10 years of knowledge, history, learning and information

You'll be surprised about what SNES music haxx0rz can pull off (geez, now I sound like those automated ads): I watched a YT vidya of a recent SMW hack, Adventures Begin. It had a 1:1 port of SM64's Big Boo's Haunt's Merry-Go-Round song. I was like: holy shit! Yeah, SMW hacking is VERY advanced. I hope NSMB hacking will someday reach that level too. I mean, DS has more capabilities than SNES.

Well, there's already a code hack for NSMB that allows you to use streamed music, so you can basically port any song you want on NSMBDS

you can do so via world map editing
So I was wrong. I thought it to be a lot more difficult.

It is difficult though , very few people have done it afaik

Hey, so, yesterday I ripped and ported a couple of tilesets and I'd like to post them here, no credit needed for these

NSMBU - Desert Underground

DOWNLOAD HERE uses 2 palettes.

SUPER MARIO MAKER 2 - Airship (NSMBU)
I mixed some decorations from SMM2 and SMM3DS for this, since some decorations look terrible when downscaled to the DS resolution

DOWNLOAD HERE uses 4 palettes.

NSMBU - Ghost house (Extended)

DOWNLOAD HERE uses 4 palettes.

Note: This tileset isn't completely accurate to how it looks in NSMBU but still works, also, since the tileset is extended you won't be able to use SubNohara in conjuction with this tileset, however, there's a way to bypass this, just extend a tileset that will be used in another area but don't add anything on the extended space, this way you'll basically be "restoring" the SubNohara in the other area.

Credits to Random Talking Bush for the original rips

Yo guys, this hack is still being worked, I finished all levels in world 3 (except for 3-A) and I'm currently at world 4.

Anyways, here are a few world 3 screenshots

And also a world 3 trailer (the level designs are not final and some levels may be reworked in the final release)

Stay tuned for more updates!

I'm extremely sorry for bumping this thread, but some people have asked me to do this and I felt this could be useful to some.

I've seen many midi looping tutorials and I feel they overcomplicate things for nothing, the math formula is not really necessary at all, and looping midis is much easier than that, I have discovered this method thanks to a tutorial made by  Gota7, and I'm gonna explain it quickly and clear.

Also, the screenshots were too large and were streching the page, please click them to have a full preview of them if they're too small

First of all, you must open your midi in Anvil Studio.

Use this thing (I don't know how to call it, lmao) to move around the different measures of your song, this will help you calculate exactly where you want the midi to start/end

Move through the song and go where you want the loop to start, then click "New cue" and type "loopStart"

Repeat this same procedure with the ending part, go to the end of the song, click "New cue" and type "loopEnd"

After that, save your song by clicking "File"-->"Export MIDI-Format 0 file..." and import it in Nitro Studio, voila, now your song was looped successfully.

I hope this makes things much easier, feel free to ask if you have any doubts
