I've seen threads about the best NSMB castle song or the best NSMB game, but not one about the best NSMBDS song overall. Or it's so old one could better not post in it again. So what is your favourite song from NSMBDS? Mine is, I think, the World 1 worldmap song.
RULES:• Only NSMBDS songs - no Wii, 2 or U/UDX.• Only vanilla songs - songs from romhacks like Newer don't count. • Beta songs and songs ported from other games, like SM64DS or SMS, do count as vanilla NSMBDS songs. |

I think my personal favorite songs are the atlethic theme, the MvsL stage themes and the E3 2005 overworld theme, and if we talk about the minigames, Danger Bob-Omb danger! is my favorite one

The athletic theme is good indeed, but the Wii made it better, IMO. Danger, Bob-Omb, Danger has a fun song, yeah, and it's a challenging minigame, in a fun way. Makes me think... I also dig the song from Luigi's casino minigames (although technically that song is from SM64DS).

NSMBDS's athletic theme is better than the Wii-onwards version(s). The desert theme is also better too IMO.
World 1's theme also would sound epic if it was turned into a jazz-funk remix. I don't really remember the rest of the OST, except for the minigame menu music (not the one reused from SM64DS, the other one). |

TBH, both DS's and Wii's desert themes are good. And yes, I can imagine the W1 worldmap theme with saxes, recorded orchestrally like the SMG soundtrack. The DS does support streamed audio.

I was thinking something more along the lines of Toejam & Earl on the Mega Drive
Also, the Luigi Casino song is actually from Sunshine. |

Posted by nr00t I was thinking something more along the lines of Toejam & Earl on the Mega Drive Never played that game. My mom has a Mega Drive, but all of her games are Sonic, because those are her favourite games. I like Sonic too, BTW. Posted by nr00t Also, the Luigi Casino song is actually from Sunshine. Okay, correction, ported from Sunshine. Just like Trampoline Time BTW; that minigame has the SMS athletic theme from the secret levels. The Starman song is originally from SM64 N64, too. |

This question is a bit ambiguous. Are you talking about NSMBDS, or the NSMB series as a whole?
Either way, the NSMB and NSMBWii Volcano themes are hard to beat. They do be boppin', especially the Wii one. |

It's mentioned in the OP, rule 1:
Posted by the rules. You should really read those lol • Only NSMBDS songs - no Wii, 2 or U/UDX And I agree on the volcano themes! An improvement compared to 64's/64DS's Lethal Lava Land theme, which is kinda bland. |

Yeah, it's the first song that comes to mind when you think of NSMBDS. Also, happy first post!

My mom has a Mega Drive, but all of her games are Sonic, because those are her favourite games. I like Sonic too, BTW. Really great system for shoot-em-ups, beat-em-ups, and other more "action" oriented games. Also, the CPU and sound chips are excellent. (SNES's sound was nice too, superior on paper even to the mighty Amiga, but the RAM limits and the combination of Gaussian interpolation and a heavy low-pass filter really hampered it in practice...) Also, if you like the sort of stuff European and North American developers were putting out around that time, which tend to be quite janky and weirdly designed (perhaps "not aged well") but with clearly interesting ideas that thought out of the box for their time and obvious ambition from their developers, the MD is home to a lot of this, too. (You'd probably also like the Commodore Amiga and other microcomputers of the day if you find you start appreciating this sort of stuff, haha.) All in all the MD was the console that I credit as really managing to open my eyes up to games and stuff as a whole: to the point I went out and bought the entire Sega tower lol. The 32X was actually pretty damn good in all honesty. |

You'll be surprised about what SNES music haxx0rz can pull off (geez, now I sound like those automated ads): I watched a YT vidya of a recent SMW hack, Adventures Begin. It had a 1:1 port of SM64's Big Boo's Haunt's Merry-Go-Round song. I was like: holy shit! Yeah, SMW hacking is VERY advanced. I hope NSMB hacking will someday reach that level too. I mean, DS has more capabilities than SNES. Posted by nr00t You'd probably also like the Commodore Amiga and other microcomputers of the day if you find you start appreciating this sort of stuff, haha. My mom also has a Commodore 64. I used to read the manuals a lot and write quite sophisticated BASIC programs on paper. Yeah, I'm a quick learner when it comes to programming languages, so I have good hopes about learning the DS's ARM ASM in the future for my SM64DS hack. But let's not forget this thread's topic - your favourite NSMBDS song! |

The snow world and beach world maps are also really sweet.
I haven't even listened to them in years and in fact I picked the game up for the first time in god knows how long because of this thread. Thank you! Well, it can increase the rom size with every song you import, but so far I haven't really seen anybody having too many issues with it

@ __fp: Yeah, I like the fact the W3 worldmap music is a remix of the Starman theme.
One should really make a patch that makes the music play on even when the game is paused. Had that idea for my SM64DS hack. For the music lovers. |

Wow, NSMBW supplanting the soundtrack leitmotifs really didn't help my memory, did it.
There's so many songs in this game I forgot about. I'm not even past 2-1 yet and I have already encountered a bunch of songs I either paid no attention to when I was younger or forgot all about, but wtf. |

Yeah, since I started hacking SM64DS, I have only played the vanilla game one time (even though that's also due to Pokémon Sun (offtopic, but my favourite song from that game is Hau'Oli City - Daytime)).
What also springs to mind is the NSMBDS underwater theme, which for whatever reason always reminds me of SM64/SM64DS's credits theme. |
