Little progress report.

I just reached 20% completion of the overworld- which equates to the approximate amount of 20 standardized NSMB-style levels. I've come up with some new design ideas that are really going to take advantage of the open environment.

Remember though, that this does not mean the hack is at 20% completion. There are many other things that need to be taken care of, such as the additional non-overworld areas which range from traditional linear level design to a m#(!i$! &u) @or*# d(s&#n!% f%r #u(!k &!av)l.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is a m#(!i$! &u) @or*# d(s&#n!% f%r #u(!k &!av)l? It certainly doesn't mean anything to me.

This is a new specie of Pokémon, obviously.
Nah, for me it sounds like some "traitional linear level design for NSMB levels or annoying NSMBWii/Sonic 3 walls you can somehow go through."

But well, does that matter, Monsieur MF64 is gonna surprise us with his super secret censored thingy in his hack anyway~

Oh. OK. Silly me. I sometimes have a tendency to take things seriously, even when they are not meant to be.

Anyways, back on topic, I look forward to seeing whatever this secret level design idea is at some point! I trust you will do an excellent job with it  MarioFanatic64!

Pipes actually have quite a significance in this hack. They're your primary use of transportation, thanks to limitations. In previous hacks, the I rarely used pipes as a platform instead of an entrance. I decided to mix that up a bit by making a Pipe Maze in the sky world. Where you drop in in the maze depends on which Pipe you used to gain entrance!

Can you enter pipes that will eventually drop you to the pit? XP

Chain Chomps are a lot like dogs. It looks like this one can hear the barks of another Chomp through that pipe. Is that why he's more eager for the pipe than Mario?

Thanks! I'm aware of the bugs. I will try to make sure the full hack will have no bugs!

That wouldn't be very fair, so no. But curiosity does kill the cat.

This is coming along really good. How much percent in complete?

The overworld is currently 22% complete. Overall, I can't really say. I don't know for sure how much content the extra areas will have, but it will be fairly large. I'd guess the hack is about 12% complete right now. Production will speed up a lot after the open world is finished, because I'll get to go back to classic linear level design.

Pics of the Week - Week 29

Mario's getting pretty high up in the sky, it seems! Let's hope he has a way of getting down without falling to an untimely demise.

Actually, it would be pretty handy to have a way to get to places faster, wouldn't it?

Mario has enough coins to buy a plane right?
...No? Then all I can think of is the Chaos Control or maybe more pipes. *shrugs*

EDIT: Or your swag doors you've put a little everywhere.

The theming looks realy nice.
But there is one thing that looks a bit strange. The bottom BG seems to be a night one while the tileset (which has a very good quality btw) is very bright. But these pipes combined with that ground parts look cool. However, that minipipe with that two blocks high passage looks somehow a bit strange.

Anyways, good work

I'm thinking of adding a cloud FG effect in the sky areas to desaturate the look of the tileset without having to actually modify it. They're high quality rips, and I fear if I edit them externally and re-import them, there'll be color loss and it won't look so great.

Ropes! Because if there's anything that should belong inside a hollow tree- it's man-made ropes!

Video game logic.

I've officially met the 25% milestone for the overworld development. Let me show you just how much that is.

This image represents the full overworld, downscaled to a small degree. The white area represents the content that you were able to access in the demo build from earlier this year. The light grey represents the content that I've currently completed for the overworld- and the darker grey represents the remaining space I still need to fill.

As you can see, I've been working on the top-right corner of the overworld, which contains Sky and Forest biomes, but also features Grassland, Mountain, Underground, Tropical and Tree areas. When I get to work on the next quarter, I'll be going counter clockwise with the bottom right corner, which focuses on Beach and Ocean, and includes a portion of the Cave biome.

Ropes perfectly fit the tree theme~
It would be even better to replace their textures with a vine-like one, sadly I bet this would clash with the other areas where you plan to use them. =/

And bravo for reaching 25%! Keep up with that and good luck~
