Pic of the Week - Week 19 MOAR UNDERGRUND. This is actually a small cavern area that connects to the beach area that was seen in the Demo Version. Just above here is the roots of a tree area! To everyone freaking out over the whole "4 years" thing, think of it this way:
MF64 is basically designing an entire game, just using the NSMB engine, which is pretty amazing honestly. And when you consider the fact that the hack serves as a pretty good resume if MF64 ever wanted to, let's say, get a job at a game company, 4 years seems worth it to me. Who knows? Maybe one of those gaming news websites will write an article about it or something and it'll become popular. Anyway, keep up the good work, man! |

Just above here is the roots of a tree area! By "roots of a tree area" do you mean an area underground punctuated by tree roots, or just "roots" as it in underneath an area with trees? Because if it's the former, I personally think that is a unique new idea for an environment that I personally have never seen in a Mario game before. That is one thing that I look forward to in this hack. Both classic and originally-styled environments. _________________________ My SMW Central Profile My Kuribo64 Profile There are Goombas somewhere below this footer, 'cause typing "Goombas" makes one appear! |

Sorry to disappoint, but what I meant by that is when you enter that Tree area, you're at the very base of the Tree and so there's a small "room" of with root graphics, and a supply of water underneath them. I'd love to have some kind of "area overlap" like having Tree roots coming out of the ceiling of the underground, but there's just not enough space in the tilesets. Hey, no worries, I'm not disappointed, because honestly what you have described is more or less exactly what I had envisioned earlier; an underground area with roots poking through in the background. In any case though, I do look forward to seeing what you have come up with! _________________________ My SMW Central Profile My Kuribo64 Profile There are Goombas somewhere below this footer, 'cause typing "Goombas" makes one appear! |

Today I made quite a lot of progress on the overworld. Right now I'm focusing on the top-left corner of the overworld, which contains the Sky and Forest biomes. If progress kept up with the pace I made today- the overworld would be complete within 150 days! I've refreshed my level designing style a lot since development started. I've taken a less-is-more approach to enemy placement, platforming challenges have become a major focus of gameplay, and I'm handling vertical area designs a lot better than I used to. I'm currently deciding on making a new gameplay trailer to coincide with E3 2015. Not trying to pry or anything, but any chance of some overworld screenshots? Know that I do understand if you feel it's not ready to be presented or simply do not wish to show it for whatever reason. Pic of the Week - Week 20 Mario's found himself right at the base of a tree. I'm running out of things to discuss from the list of screenshots I made a month ago. Next month should have some newer, cooler stuffs to show. Posted by WhatTheHack Not trying to pry or anything, but any chance of some overworld screenshots? Know that I do understand if you feel it's not ready to be presented or simply do not wish to show it for whatever reason. I have been plotting the overworld in a map for convenience, but I'd rather not show it just yet. Completing the overworld is just Phase 1 of this hack's development, so you'll likely get to catch a glimpse of the completed overworld long before the hack released. Existential question: How many pipes entrance/exits are there already? =P

I forgot to do Pic of the Week last night, my bad! Pic of the Week - Week 21 Tree environments aren't just limited to vertical areas- in this case, it's completely horizontal. I was obviously trying to capture the feel of New Super Mario Bros. 2 with these tree segments. You may notice the original New Super Mario Bros. cloud background that was used in over half of the levels in New Super Mario Advance + Take 2- the difference here being, in Super Mario: Endless Earth you'll rarely see it. This is what I was talking about when I said I looked forward to seeing both traditional NSMB/Mario game environments and some new, original environments by you, MF64. Treetops is honestly not an environment I've seen in that many Mario games, so it is good to have it as something different! _________________________ My SMW Central Profile My Kuribo64 Profile There are Goombas somewhere below this footer, 'cause typing "Goombas" makes one appear! |

Oh boy, if that area is original!
It has an interresting and almost (if not entierely) unused theme. The tileset is wonderful too. You've definetly have the talent to finish this, so take the time it will take. Also... 300 entrances? Posted by MarioFanatic64 Pic of the Week - Week 20 Looks great and reminds me a bit on the SML2 tree zone. Honeycombs would fit in your level very well in my opinion, especially infront of your tree trunk bg. I actually had Honeycombs in mind! I just need to make sure that if I import them into the tileset, that I don't lose too much color detail, because that's already an issue with the Tree tileset at the moment. Also, I just finished the E3 trailer. It will be posted to YouTube two hours prior to the Nintendo Digital Event next week. I forgot the Pic of the Week again. I hope this'll make up for it: The Nintendo Digital Event is starting in precisely two hours, so here's a little something to get hyped. Also, I have Pic of the Week, as usual: Pic of the Week - Week 22 I took this screenshot just this morning, and moved my next image to next week. I managed to import Honeycombs into the Tree tileset with minimal color loss. I think it looks very nice. Though, imagine my surprise when I played Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii for the first time two days ago to see the exact same thing done two years earlier! I guess I wasn't as original as I thought... Wow. Your level design has improved a lot since your last hack. It's also amazing how you are able to create funny and hard secrects (particularly the minimario and pipe cannon thing). These honeycombs also look very well done.
