I'm not typically one to release demos for my hacks. If I were to release another one, I'm afraid it would be just as limited as the first demo. I don't want to spoil the experience of playing a full game by letting people play an unfinished version years in advance.

That's why I host Pic of the Week. So people get updates without being spoiled.

When I designed this area, the structure I had in mind was "a sequence of small chambers that combine to look like a target". You can't see the whole view here, but that's exactly how this area turned out. But why the target shape? Is something else here?

Just another Underwater Escapade. Incidentally, that's the name I dubbed for the Underwater music. It's going to be an original composition made by the same person who composed the MIDI for the Forest Music. He goes by "Bob. B".

Edit: Apologies to anyone who intended to follow my twitter page. When I signed up, the terms of privacy were unclear. Another door. This is the third one we've seen so far. You know, if you want to know what these doors indicate, I should tell you that all the pieces are already there. Figure it out!

An another new progress report. I've been working more on the game soundtrack. It's almost complete! Remember back when the hack was announced and I said there would be 18 tracks in the hack? Well, double it. The final count for the soundtrack is a whopping 36 songs. 28 of which are already complete, and about half of them are completely new pieces.

I only had to make one unfortunate compromise. I'm not sure what exactly has caused this, but apparently jamming a whole lot of custom music into sound_data.sdat kills the World Map sound effects, which includes footsteps, Mario's voice, fanfares and ambient effects. It's not a particularly big deal as the World Map screens are mostly useless in this hack. If I could, I'd simply get rid of them and replace them with a nice, clean Mission Select screen.

Actually, it's jamming a lot of instruments into the WORLD_ALL swar which does that.

Actually, it's jamming a lot of instruments into the WORLD_ALL swar which does that.


Which is especially strange, because the sound effects died after I replaced BGM_FINALCLEAR_DEMO.sseq.

Pardon my mistake. I replaced BGM_FINALCLEAR.sseq, along with its corresponding sbnk and swar. When the World Map sound effects disappeared, I moved it to BGM_KUPPACLEAR_DEMO.sseq, but still no sfx.

I'm trying to imagine the mess that are the raw tileset images you've thrown in the game due to how many tiles there are in them, I mean with the blocks in the slopes and all...
Besides, there seem to be some brown pixels on the edges of these pillars in the background in the underground screenies, minor but still something, same goes for the stone around the door, it has some bright pixels on the top that is dark otherwise. Bit, heh, keep it up!
