They are "sticky-out bits", for decoration.

Oh... well allow me to "stick-out a bit" here but I don't really think they look that good. The shading is odd... were these originally in the game? Cause if so then... well I still don't like them.

They aren't a big problem, but there is my opinion...

Those are sticks, you might need to take a closer look, but they have been in all the NSMB games that use that kind of tileset.

Yes, and one extra tile of space in the tileset won't add anything worth removing a decoration.

It's a room. Just an empty room. Fun.

To put a slightly more interesting spin on this screenshot, this is the checkpoint room between the overworld and a fortress. So if you die in the Fortress, you'll respawn here instead of all the way back at the Mushroom House.

That Background looks very good

Tho it has a few small interruptions and the fade into solid blue looks a bit strange.

It's actually from Super Mario 64. And I can see the interruptions too. Not worried about it so much because a. it's less noticable in motion, and b. most of the clouds are usually hidden behind the Top BG.

I REALLY like the background here, is it custom made, edited or what?
Either way, I think the ground there is a bit clashy, the smooth black and white tile does not fit with the worn looking background.

I rather think that the ground looks perfectly while the background has a too Yoshis Islandish style.

The background is an old relic from the NSMB beta.

To save space and for other technical reasons, two locations are placed in the same area: the Mushroom House with Toadsworth & Peach and the Fortress entry room. The background in that screenshot isn't actually a background, because the real background behind it is the blue checkered one you can see in the Mushroom House screenshot. The Fortress entry background is actually taking up a significant amount of the tileset for both locations, which is why both rooms share the same SMB3-homage ground tiles.

Oh, that's a good way to save space, but I still suggest if you have a few tiles left over afterwards that you find an alternative.

I didn't forget about Pic of the Week this week, I just forgot what day it was!

Pic of the Week - Week 57

There's not much to tell about this new screenshot, but I promise you that interesting things are coming over the next weeks. Hack progress has been somewhat slow lately (as usual), but I am occupying my time wisely.

I've also decided to take on a new side-project which I'm currently calling Project 2.5, which I will work on when I'm not motivated to work on Endless Earth. This will not cut into Endless Earth's development time, and it is a small-scale project.

You'll find out more about Project 2.5 when the timing is right.

Not another Clone Tag Team sequel, no. I'm afraid if I made another one I'd just be recycling the same concepts... again.

It's not an 'original' hack, but I'm sure it will be better than both of the Clone Tag Team games.

Hello my honorable virtual friend.
Considering the current progress of this project, would you have any date in your mind for the release of "Endless Earth"?

Hungered for your game.

You've probably guessed it by now. This game will have a quick travel feature with The Toad Network. Turns out Princess Peach's Toads are quite the architects, because they invented some kind of other-worldly hub to help Mario get where he needs to go. They've set up a bunch of minigames to give Mario items, and are always in the mood to chat.

Be advised, however, that if you don't know which door to take, you could get yourself lost!

Pffft you can always ask Toad where to go!
...Nevermind *holds paper and pencil to draw a map*, he'll just repeat the same line over and over, right?

In all seriousness, looks interresting! Perhaps hinting the destination with visual cues would help, too.
