Sarcasm aside, your levels have too many flaws, spanning from camera bugs to bad tiling to utter blandness. I like the idea of making it hard, I can see what you did in some sections, but it's not so well represented. Also, you must create your levels from scratch. Erase everything in the level slots and start from there, so your levels look nothing like the original. You should know this, given the fact that you have to read the rules for posting a new hack here.

Nonetheless, I am looking forward to see your improvements; this is an early alpha, anyways.

Found it at DarkUmbra, and that required me to register, post an introductory thread and post a reply in the relevant hack's thread to actually download it. How crappy is that? Anyway, I have only played the first two levels: pretty fun! There was nothing wrong with the ROM itself, as far as I noticed (in case the uploader added something to it, like some people do on the internet).

Step 1


First, build up your room with floating coins and any event-triggering sprite This time we'll use sprite 152, which could serve as an alternative to the POW block. This sprite must have a target ID with whatever n value (of course, remember that n ≠ 0 and that n ≤ 64). Easy, right?

Step 2

Now we have to place the sprite 197 with ‘Block type = Blue coin’, ‘Effect/action = Off/destroy first’, a trigger ID which obviously matches the value you chose in the previous step. These former two settings will prevent any shreds from appearing upon the activation of the sprite. Modify the height and weight of this sprite in a way so it covers all the coins. Use as many as needed and remember to tick the ‘Permanent’ checkbox (although it may not be necessary).

Step 3


Then, you have to put a sprite 192 over each coin and make them all have the same trigger ID value, which should match with the one used in the previous steps.



You're done!

Note: Be careful with the amount of coins you're going to use. The game may lag if too many falling coins are spawned.

You shouldn't really complain about that, it wasn't the developers' intention for the game to be hacked. They never used the Battle Stars in single-player mode nor had any intention to do so, apparently; hence such code to prevent it from being misused in a normal level was made, I think.

I thought it would be a nice feature for this board, since there are posts and threads that I lost, found and don't want to lose them again. So here are the descriptions:

Watchlist: it would be a feature on your profile, beside the Show threads feature. Only you can watch this. You can put threads on your watchlist, so if said threads get new posts and you didn't check, you'd get a message, like this:
Terra has posted on BG Editing How-To.”
Favourites: every thread and post would have a blue star icon beside it. If you clicked it, it'd turn yellow and obviously get added to your favourites. There would be two different features, as said before: favourite posts and favourite threads. You wouldn't get any notifications if somebody posts on a marked thread or if a marked post is deleted.
Others: if you have similar ideas, please, vote this and share them!
Nothing: an additional vote option. Actually, I don't know why I put that… but anyway.

So I have found these two animations which seem not to be used at all in the final game:



They use the same palettes as the “4: Sky/mushrooms (world 7 style)” and “39: Tower” tilesets, respectively. Although the lava tile does appear in the tower tileset, it isn't animated or maybe it doesn't work properly due to some misconfiguration or stuff. What do you think? Is there a way to make them work on?

One of these days, I realized how inactive the ‘Latest News’ section is Over two years of nothingness until  Arisotura's update on registration issues. So, here's my suggestion: each time someone finishes/releases a hack (like when it happened with Newer Wii), a staff member would post it in the aforementioned section so newcomers could see the activity and our potential too. However, these threads should be immediately closed, as the feedback would be posted in the relevant hack's dedicated thread, and this is the only disadvantage I find with the idea.

Do you agree? Please, share your opinions on this and point out good things about it if carried into effect, or otherwise problems that it may cause. Have a nice day, everybody!

Anyway, back on-topic with actual criticism:
  • Spamming levels with coins isn't good; [1][2][3]
  • the roof here need be higher for more comfort; [2]
  • golden enemies look bad—especially the Banzai Bill; [4][5]
  • there's minor cut-off tiling; [2][6]
  • world map touch screen background seems to be corrupted; [7]
  • putting Star Coins right next to one another should be avoided (way too easy); [8]
  • the golden mushroom background is too repetitive; [8][9]
  • and… in what universe does the icon look okay? [10]

Now, perhaps the levels aren't unfun to play, but I cannot know that. Even though, these errors, among other things, should be fixed.

Maybe you messed up randomisation? I don't really know. Maybe this will help.
You must check ‘Scroll vertically’ option in the View settings. Then, to make the camera start from the top-left corner of the view, do this.
Now, if you have trouble with slopes, this is what you have to do to make a continuous slope object:

Well, you can ask us all for help with those bugs or the hack. Remember you're part of a NSMB hacking community, and if you have concerns, you can count on us. Don't get heartache for trying to solve them so badly, a li'l help won't come bad. Even if those bugs look like they have no solution, ask us for help, because that's why we are a community; don't ever think we won't care.
Now, relax and put things apart. You're not forced to do this. Just don't get stressed, OK? Take breaks every now and then, make up your mind and work patiently. Even if the hack comes out in 2020. The most important thing is that you made it with all your effort and capacity. This ain't your life. You have to do other things beside this. Doing Super Mario Maker stuff may be very fun for you, so do it and stop NSMB hacking for a while when it comes out.

No, it is unused. The animation for the lava tile in the castle tileset does work, it is stored in d_2d_TEN_I_yakata_ncg.bin, but the one we were talking about was the tower one, which does not work.
