The Eternal Star has been found

Super Mario: Endless Earth is my fifth and final New Super Mario Bros. hack. This hack is the end of the chronology of my hacks as a collective series, and is my interpretation of Mario's final adventure.

This hack contains:
-An open-world overworld that is 16128x8192 pixels in size. (2,016 screen sizes in-game)
-A soundtrack containing over 35 melodies, from classic tunes to brand new works.
-Over 30 themed environments.
-8 Fortresses, each with its own theme.
-A rich story that ties together references from all over the Mario canon.
-120 Power Stars scattered around the world to find.

In this game, we get to explore a whole new realm of the Mushroom World- not in levels, or small, chopped up segments of gameplay, but as one gigantic seamless world that's almost... endless! In the game world, you don’t have any set direction to head in. It's not just about heading straight for the goal- it's how you decide to get there that matters. You can head in any direction you like. Up, down, left, right- nowhere is off limits. You have to locate the goal. You'll progress by completing missions, by finding and conquering in-game fortresses. There are eight missions in the game. Power Stars replace the role of Star Coins- with 120 scattered throughout the game world in each game. Though they won't count for anything (your Power Stars won't be saved), they are a reward for curiosity and exploration.

The best analogy I think I can make for the game is that it's structured in a very similar way to Kirby & the Amazing Mirror or the original The Legend of Zelda for the NES- in that you start off in a big world, and to progress you have to reach a fortress and such.

In a 2D plane, this kind of gameplay is often referred to as reminiscent of games like Metroid and Castlevania, so if that's your thing, get ready for a Mario Metroidvania!

How do you want to save progress when there is no worldmap?

I have a plan for that, don't worry.

During a level? That would be cool for sure.

This looks extremely interesting. But I have lots of questions But how will it work? Overflow tricks, custom world map, ASM or what? Is the only level you enter into 1-1 and you use save states to save progress? What about the event limit? .

I guess I may have to wait and see .

I will explain everything when the time comes. You don't need to use savestates, it doesn't use any extensive ASM hacks (just minor stuff like unlimited time, etc.), and there are objectives that when completed allow you to save.

I've been planning this hack for years, and it uses every trick in the book to make the game play completely differently than the original NSMB.

Sounds awesome, but I can't view the images. :\
Probably because I was erroneously banned from kuribo64.net.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just found the trailer for it on YouTube. I'll just watch that instead.

That's for Hack #4, not Endless Earth. It's getting late right now so I'm a bit tired but I guess I'll upload mirrors of them tomorrow.

By the way, I intend on having a new screenshot to show every week. I'll call it "Pic of the Week". That's totally original.

it’s quite possible that Super Mario: Endless Earth may just be my final full-length NSMB hack.

Awwww! That's to bad! It's going to be your last hack!
Anyway, how did you do the screenshots? The look awesome!
Edit: Just ignore this post, I'm the good old, Mr. I can't read .

It really looks amazing. This will be the hardest work that a NSMB-Hacker never had.

I've took a look at your screenshots, and it seems like some of your stuff is similar to the stuff I put in the hack I am developing.

Also, the idea of a 1-huge-level hack is impressive. Congrats if you manage to make it work.

Wow man, THIS is... I have no words for that.
I wish you a lot of luck for getting this huge thing work correctly, assuming you will probably need some ASM and time to make this level. Also, will there be more than one level like this one? I was just wondering 'bout that.

Well that sounds interesting at all but I can't judge that without something to play. That's a little bit hard to imagine how this works in the end. But the concept seems very intersting.

Anyway, how did you do the screenshots?

I would make them by combining transparent-ized editor screenshots with in-game screenshots using layers in Paint.NET.
