By the way, I forgot to mention I'll be on the IRC from 7AM to 9AM after the video is uploaded. Consider it an impromptu interview, so ask away about whatever.

Pic of the Week - Week 75

Let this picture of a tree area be a sign that there is more variety to come in future Pics of the Week. This time I've had to work has been amazing, and I'm super close to finishing the tropical biome, so I've started working on other sub-areas to rejuvenate my enthusiasm. The overworld is now 41% complete, and it will only be growing more expansive over the next two months or so.

On a related note, development of Clone Tag Team Definitive Edition is going steady, with about 40 levels finalized. Though I will assure you that this doesn't mean the hack is 50% complete. There is a lot more than just Clone Tag Team in this remake. The only World I can truly say needs no more work is W1.

Skawo is right. Many aspects of this hack directly indicate imitation of pretty much anything remotely related to Newer such as world themes, graphics and various assets, even the title has 'Newer' in it.

Nobody's saying that you can't use these assets, and certainly not if you are modifying the material, but to claim that your work is original just because you put a slight bit of work into it to make it marginally different is a lie.

This hack is a blatant imitation of Newer. You simply can't deny that.

Pic of the Week - Week 78

Yay, variety. This pic doesn't say much in itself, other than that I've started properly on the underground/haunted portion of the overworld map.

Total overworld progress has skyrocketed to 48% in just a few short weeks. From here on in, I'm aiming to achieve 10% of the overworld per month, assuming progress hits 50% completion by this time next week. That means that the overworld will be complete by the end of 2016, so I'll finally be able to show you all how it looks.

Of course, even after that is done, there's still a lot to do. I need to playtest and bugfix the entire map (which, trust me, is going to prove extra brain-melting), and there's still the fortresses and the Toad network, and I also need to work on the map screen, (which as you may have seen is in no condition currently to be presented professionally).

I know I said I wouldn't update the jyotyu tileset because it would require re-plotting the digital map I've been working on, but I'm now thinking of waiting until the map is finished and then updating jyotyu, among any other graphics that I feel have lost their charm. While the jyotyu tiles in the map won't be accurate to the in-game world, the map will still be accurate to the design of the world and the tiles will still be consistent.

Pic of the Week - Week 79

Mario's adventure has finally led him into the caves of Endless Earth. Somewhere in this intricate cave system is one of Bowser's own fortresses.

This week, overworld progress reached 50%! I'm going to try and stick to a monthly quota from here on out. If I stick to it, let's just say that the Holiday trailer will have a 'big' reveal. My next milestone is 75% progress, which I should be able to reach in October. Wish me luck!

My reasoning is that a.) Scuttlebugs are spider-like creatures, they would indeed inhabit a wooden structure like a bridge, and b.) the color palette goes nicely with the level aesthetic. The graphics in this level are based on Sakura Village from Newer Wii and the Scuttlebug's warm colors fit in the Japanese-inspired environment and provide a nice contrast.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid proof of work is required to make a thread. I'm going to have to trash this.

When you have something to show us, feel free to re-post your hack here.

1. Open Tileset 2 (Sub Nohara)

2. Go to Map16 tab and make a copy of the Fortress and use the Horizontal Flip Tool to change the duplicate's direction.

3. Go to Tile Behaviors and make sure each tile type is 00 00 00 00

4. Add the flipped Fortress as an object in the objects tab and save

5. Open any level, and the flipped Fortress will now be usable in Tileset 2.

Was the original idea, yes. My original vision was a Minecraft-esque layering system, where the theme is relative to the Y axis. In that stage, 'The Core' was indeed at the very bottom, followed by the standard underground layer, underwater, beach, grass, mushrooms, mountains... you get the idea.

The final concept was a little different to remedy that. Areas don't span the entire horizontal width of the map but they are still logically placed based on geography.

Mario has to break the bricks himself. The Grrol is a hazard but if you follow it, it will lead to and reveal a secret.
