ray can come back anytime he wants. Right now, there's just static in the air so he's not coming back yet. He's been banned before, and he came back then.  Freeze is just being loyal to his friend.

EDIT: Actually, seems he's permabanned.

Besides, what we have now in World Map editing may not be much, but it's more than we've ever had before.

Pic of the Week - Week 9

A first look at the Desert environment, which I'm dubbing "Yoshi's Sunset Sands". I always lamented the fact that Yoshi never appeared in New Super Mario Bros., and I always wanted to do something to acknowledge him. The music that'll play in this area is a desert-style cover of the Athletic Theme from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The tileset was actually a huge issue for me. I didn't want to re-use an asset I already used for New Super Mario Bros. 5: Clone Tag Team 2, but Desert tilesets are especially annoying for me, and damned if New Super Mario Bros. U's desert tileset wasn't just dandy. Ultimately I compromised by using the same New Super Mario Bros. U tileset but added a whole lot of extra content in comparison to the one in New Super Mario Bros. 5: Clone Tag Team 2. The background is mostly custom made and was a right pain to get to a passable NSMB quality.

Since you're hungry for some feedback, here's my two cents.

I downloaded this hack and looked forward to playing, but I dropped it after the first few levels. The reason why I didn't like it so much is because I honestly expected a lot more creativity. After playing through the vibrant worlds of the Clone Tag Team series, I was expecting things such as re-vamped world maps and possibly custom music, but I instead found the old unchanged NSMB assets which could have easily been re-done in SMB2 style. It seemed a little lazy in my opinion.

I'd totally play it all the way through if there was more custom content. I love not knowing what I'm going to find next, and the seeing all those old world icons and such meant I pretty much knew exactly what I was in for. It's an okay hack in it's own right, but it feels too unfinished to be a great one. There's a lot of unused potential and you could have done a lot more with it.

Thank you. That's a good and honest response and it's respectable. I like your gumption. Truth be told, the reason the hack had a mere six-month development time was because I didn't want to spend all that much time and effort on a remake hack, when I could prioritize my planning on Endless Earth, which I always intended to be the real successor to the Clone Tag Team games. Also, the intention from the get-go was to rebuild Super Mario Bros. 2 as if it were a NSMB game. Originally the hack was just going to have the 20 old Super Mario Bros. 2 levels and nothing more- so I'm glad that it eventually became something more.

Someone already did the SMW remake:

There's already been two Super Mario Bros./Lost Levels remakes, as well as two Mario Forever remakes. Surely there can be two Super Mario World remakes? Besides, Gerry's SMW port could use work. It'd be nice to have an alternative.

I'm just posting this as a suggestion, but I think something like this would probably fit the environment better. It compliments the floaty physics, and the visuals a bit more than Egg Planet:

Are those rocks in the ground edited from the cave tileset of NSMBWii? I really like them.

Also, is that cloud an edited bouncy mushroom?

The tileset actually comes from NSMBWii, and yes, that Cloud is an edited bouncy mushroom.

I'm annoyed that the Wii U is capable of 1080p, but the resolution on the DS games haven't been upscaled at all.

But I'm stoked to see Mario 64 again. If you didn't already know, Super Mario 64's my favourite game.

You need to try researching more before you post because these questions have been answered a hundred times.

(For instance, the thing you're looking for is literally just three threads down from this one.)

World Map editing is currently very primitive. We can't edit paths, but we have a lot of basic functions with the World Map Editor.

http://nsmbhd.net/thread/2871-worldmap-editor-and-all-the-information-you-ll-need/

Checkpoint flags are easy. While editing a level, place the checkpoint flag in the level where you want, and create an entrance next to it. Then in the Level Configuration tab, just set the Mid-Way Entrance ID to the same ID as the entrance you just made.

It seems your project is quite far along already. I don't mind you using my Grassy Plains background, they say imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery.

From those screenshots it looks like there's quite a few graphical errors, and a bit of general aesthetic unpleasantness, but I'm sure as you refine your level design and improve over time it'll be a much better hack. Good luck with your open-world project.

I'm gonna have to agree with Mariomaster, that background looks really bad.

My only other complaint would be that the level does not have a very large variety of enemies, there are only a couple bob-ombs and everything else is just fire cannons. (I forget their name )

But that is for sure the best airship theme I've heard in NSMB, great job!

I'm going to have to disagree with you. The background looks perfectly fine- the scrolling looks a bit weird but I don't think that can be helped in this case. Levels don't need to have a large variety of enemies to be good, they just need to fit into the theme and provide a balanced challenge. Remember the first Airship level in Super Mario Bros. 3? All it had were cannons.

You don't have to add the camera, you just have to add a view, which gives tells the camera where to focus in the level. In the view settings, there should be an option to scroll vertically, which you want to tick. Most inportantly, there needs to be at least one tile placed in any square you want your camera to scroll up into.

Also remember when you're working with entrances, make sure you've configured the view settings so the camera finds you in the correct view when you warp. Otherwise, the camera may focus in another view when Mario is in another view.

Hello, everybody!

Here's an update to New Super Mario Advance + Take 2! This update adds a few custom music imports and minor changes- not enough to significantly change the hack's playability, but it's an upgrade nevertheless.

Today I made quite a lot of progress on the overworld. Right now I'm focusing on the top-left corner of the overworld, which contains the Sky and Forest biomes. If progress kept up with the pace I made today- the overworld would be complete within 150 days!

I've refreshed my level designing style a lot since development started. I've taken a less-is-more approach to enemy placement, platforming challenges have become a major focus of gameplay, and I'm handling vertical area designs a lot better than I used to.

I'm currently deciding on making a new gameplay trailer to coincide with E3 2015.

When I started work on my first hack, I was 14. Now I'm 20, and working on my last hack.

Yeah.

Anyway, no more offtopic.

I actually had Honeycombs in mind! I just need to make sure that if I import them into the tileset, that I don't lose too much color detail, because that's already an issue with the Tree tileset at the moment.

Also, I just finished the E3 trailer. It will be posted to YouTube two hours prior to the Nintendo Digital Event next week.

Wait.. I'm not sure, but is that my ripped NSMBWii Volcano BG on that screenshot? If so, you can't just use that BG without my permission. I know I didn't draw the volcanoes myself, but the ripping cost me a lot of work.

They're rips. They belong to Nintendo. Although Sherry_ should at least give credit to you for your hard work.

Random Progress Report, just 'cuz:

1. The Bug I had encountered has been fixed. The ROM now works on any flashcard that supports NSMB hacks.
2. Even though I'm only half way through development of the top-right corner of the map, the world is starting to take shape, and it's getting pretty expansive. I've gotten lost myself! Lucky I'm plotting out a map.
3. Right now, inspiration for level design is at a standstill. I'd rather spend time coming up with fresh ideas than building randomly generated areas. I have something in mind for a Mini-Mario area.
4. Music hacking is picking up. I've imported over 10 music tracks over the last couple days. Some old classic, some new compositions. Returning classics are the Title Screen from Super Mario All-Stars, Western Land from Mario Party 2, and a remix of the Main Theme from Super Mario 64.
5. In other news, I'm toying with the possibility of a custom Final Boss. I need to perform some tests.
