Yeah, no rush, take as long as needed. Since it's been about a month since the last progress update, can we have another one?

Right now I'm dealing with a sound issue that affects the fourth mission.

That aside, 5/8 fortresses done.

Nice! As a new person to this community I can say I'm very impressed with your work! It seems this will be as cool as Newer. Btw will you edit/replace the sound effects like in Newer?

I really adore the mindset this game is going for. I do think that an Open-World 2D Mario Game released by Nintendo should be just like this. Although, I do have a question about the coins: How come you took them from Mario Maker instead of NSMBU? Was it just to show Nintendo that they could have done a better job?

I'm guessing it's because rips of the mario maker coins actually exist which is not the case for NSMBU's coins.

The Mario Maker coins exist as sprites instead of 3D models- which made them a ton easier to import to NSMBDS.

Also, editing sound effects are certainly an option but aren't a priority right now.

the boss track severely lacks beats. even for a first boss it's kinda.. offputting.

I'd like to ask the community a question for a moment.

A big concern I'm having with Endless Earth is that, in some missions (particularly #4 and #5) music will only play in very specific circumstances. It's a common problem with area overflow but I've been careful when designing the overworld that music will play. Mission 1, 2 and 3 are all entirely functional with music. 4 and 5 are being a problem, and 6, 7 and 8 are untested at this time. It's frustrating because there's no ideal way for me to work around this.

A while back I got skawo's help to basically trick the game into thinking that all 255 areas in the game were part of a single level, which seemingly fixed the music issue but a.) prompted me to reassign tens of thousands of entrance destinations, and most importantly b.) made the game extremely prone to crashing the further you get into it.

Recently I came up with a workaround for Mission #5 which I believe was a change for the better. It resulted in boarding off 90% of the overworld in that particular mission but ultimately it's a cinematic and (for lack of a better word) "guided" way of shaking things up just past the half-way point of the game. There's definitely still the feel of exploration but the area you can explore is much more confined.

Mission 4 is also having sound issues and won't be so easy to workaround, plus I don't want to put any further boundaries on what the player is allowed to explore. Yet I simply can't try to turn a blind eye to the sound problems.

So the question I want to ask is, what would you value if in my situation?
Would you prefer that two (and possibly more) missions of this eight-mission game are smaller and closed off in exchange for quality and polish?

Or should I keep trying to find some hacky way to hide the music problems and probably delay the game indefinitely?

This game is in development for such a long time, it doesn't matter if it takes a little longer.
The most important to me would be that music is playing because I consider it to be one of the most important aspects in Mario games.

Let's see what the others are thinking but I would be fine with both ways as long as the music works. But maybe you can find a solution to fix it.

Testing Mission 6, seems like sound is working with no problems. 4 and 5 remain the problematic pair.
