So I have been working on a new hack for about a week or to, and already have all the worlds down, and some tile sets, but while I was looking around, I found that there are no rips of the nsmb u backgrounds, or much of nsmb u in general. I want to use the painted swampland background mainly for world 2, which is a South-American jungle themed world. I would be pleased if someone knows were I could find them, because I am not smart or motivated enough to rip them myself.

There is a metric ton's worth of ripped NSMBU stuff here. Backgrounds not so much though, because the tiler is pretty bad and it's a pain to make something that looks good. Still, Rips from Newer NSMB Titles has a few of them.

Thanks, but is there at least normal, plain rips of nsmbu backgrounds, because I cant seem to find any of them anywhere on the internet. I can demake them, but I need the clear image. If I'm able to do that, I might post some in this thread, but right now I have no idea if any even exist.

There are some backgrounds here and some plain rips here, however nsmbu backgrounds are less common not only due to the tiler being a bit funky but also because they're 3d and are thus hard to get good rips of and hard to loop.

If you want to make NSMBU background rips yourself, that's also going to be difficult. NSMBU backgrounds are fully 3D, so you have to make a decent, tileable render. There aren't many of them floating online, but there are a few there: https://fantendo.fandom.com/wiki/User:YoshiGo99/NSMB_Sprites_%26_Models#Backgrounds
EDIT: wait, keeper already said the same thing. nevermind, then.

Are there any tips or tricks to deal with background tiling when making a custom background?

Yes, create a small image and then create repeating things with the editor and it will only process the image you imported first.

The best method is definitely manual tiling, since it gives you access to flipping and multiple palettes which the tiler doesn't support at all.

Otherwise, well, you probably shouldn't use  Dirbaio's background tiler if you are. From my experience it generally gives worse results, probably since NSMBe's tiler improved after its release. You should instead use the unofficial NSMBe5.3, since it has a feature that gives you more tiles for the top background (while giving you less tiles for the bottom one, but it often doesn't need as many tiles anyway). Then, you might also want to edit the background to make it more tileable (by aligning repeated elements on an 8x8 grid, for example).

Hold on, would it be possible to use something like the "import bitmap and recreate palette" with the backgrounds? It might help a little bit with the tiler. The main issue though seems to be the too complex backgrounds and all the tiles it has to make.

Yes, you have to use it for the manual tiling method.
