I am enjoying the demo. Basically the only levels that need work is 7-5, 8-6 and 8-8, also I have a cool idea: turn 8-Tower2 into 8-9 and turn 6-tower2 into 6-7, I think it's genius despite your huge progress in this amazing hack, but I think you could pull it off

the zip with the castle tiles should also contain some extra nsbtx files you need to replace (or if not nsbtx files, pngs). They should be called toride_(number).nsbtx or something similar and they go in the polygon_unit folder.

Gonna do a critique on this before I forget. No particular order.


- The name isn't really fitting as it implies it's a port of nsmbu where in reality it's its own thing with a nsmbu motif.


- Think you should chill with the piranha plants and the doughnut blocks. Particularly the piranha plants, sometimes there were so many it caused my game to lag.


- The arrow goes off the pipe here.





- The boss icon doesn't exactly look threatening.





- What's up with the wall here? I'm guessing it was the tower wall before you changed the SubNohara tileset and if that's the case maybe you could add that piece to one of the other tilesets or do what nsmbwii did with the 7-tower secret exit area. Also, the pipe seems too close to the ground, especially considering you were just at the top of the tower.





- Maybe put some coins here to make the jump here feel a bit safer.





- I think you should center this piranha plant or, if you can't do that directly, make the hole only 2 blocks wide. Also accidentally killed it before I took the screenshot so I drew it back in.





- Why are these coins in the piranha plants? Also kinda a difficult set of jumps for such an early stage.





- Kinda hard to kill these goombas due to how close the piranha plant is to them. Again, killed it before I got the screenshot.





- Probs should replace these with normal coins, if possible, as blue coins are usually used in relation to a P-Switch or at least a timer. Once again, I collected them before I took the screenshot





- Make this pipe 2-way so if you're small mario and you miss the star you're not screwed. Same goes for that one level in world 2.





- This block feels kinda random/out of place.





- I don't like how this star coin relies on pick-a-pipe to determine whether you get it or not.





- This star coin is way to easy. You just go through doors. No platforming or anything, just 2 doors consecutively.





- If these platforms load in sync, it can make this jump impossible for small mario.





- This whole area seems kinda random and out of place. The floating minipipes also look a tad tacky.





- This underground section is too short to really warrant its existence. The background here also scrolls and the jyotyu tiles use their overworld palette.





- Camera here behaves a bit strange.





- You can't walk up this slope all the way, the ground tile stops you.





- You can go up here for some reason.





- Tiling error.





- The ceiling above the fire bro is too close. Hard to get passes him without getting hit.





- Use hard blocks here instead of mini blocks.





Switched from emulator to flashcart after 1-tower as it was unbearably slow so I won't have screenshots for the rest of this post.

- Why do the bendy mushrooms in 1-5 use sprites similar to nsmbwii but the normal mushrooms use sprites from nsmbu?

- The preview for 1-5 uses nsmbds's bendy mushroom sprites.

- Make it so you can exit the cannon level. Maybe add a goal flag.

- The vine in 1-castle removes a ground tile which means you can kill yourself by falling down the hole it made.

- The second and last star coins of 1-castle are too close to each other imo.

- Lastly, there's a warp in 2-1 that crashes the game on a flashcart.

I've yet to finish the other worlds but when I do I'll probably post a critique on them. Anyway, nice job so far.

Thank you so much Keeper. I appreciate the feedback and yes, lots of these things will be fixed in the full version. One thing I can’t fix however is the coins that appear in the world 1 tower. Those are tile god coins and they don’t over regular coins, which is a bummer. Lots of levels actually have those pop up blue coins, they’re kinda just cute little Easter eggs. Again I appreciate all the criticism and I will try to use it to make my hack better. Thank you

If you want to spawn regular coins you could maybe use the actor spawner asm and generate the coin sprite. Then you would have normal coloured coins.
