Hey everyone,

Some of you might remember New Super Mario Castle, the very first hack I ever made. The base concept is that every level is a castle.
But if I look back at my hack now I think that the idea is quite nice but I executed it rather poorly. So that's why I started to work on Part 2 of the hardcore castle challenge!

I updated the main post and I'll provide you the following update:

The first world is mainly done, the levels themselves are finished only the boss battles are missing in most of them.
The second world is in progress now with 4 levels done up to this point.

In the first post you can now find another level gameplay + a few new screenshots

Super Mario Castle 2 - Two challenging worlds full of castles.
Can you complete all levels and collect all Star Coins? Try your luck but don't say I didn't warn you

I changed two features to make it a bit easier:
- 1-up houses are available, the other toad houses aren't
- you can save anytime

This is version 1.0, so if you find any bugs please report them to me.

I have just finished (tool-assisted) your game. I had to say, this game is wonderful, but unfortunately, there are quite a number of bugs.

In World 1-1, the Thwomps are glitchy. They somehow got stuck into the U-shaped moving platforms.
In World 1-3, this should not be intended.
In World 1-4, you can get Star Coin 3 simply by jumping off a bullet bill or a Crowber climbing up to the platform where the Piranha Plant is.
In World 1-5, you probably don't want this.
In World 1-Castle, you can make to the ceiling leading to the boss door without the use of the trampoline.
In World 2-2, this should not be the way it works. Also, there is a wrong door animation.
In World 2-4, are you supposed to play like this? Also, sometimes Bowser Jr. goes into the Whomp.
In World 2-6, this is weird.
In World 2-Castle, just cheese through the whole area.

There are a lot more, but these are enough for this post. I am quite sure more can be found here.

Thank you for this massive report, I'll sure have a look at your video.
I plan to release a version 1.1 when a bunch of bugs have been found.

1-1: that one is already fixed
1-3: it is indeed not intended, but try this without tools and come back again.
1-4: that is the intended way
1-5: I honestly don't know what you mean.
1-Castle: thx for that, it's fixed
2-2: like in 1-3, this is an alternative way you can choose when being more skilled. Perfectly fine with me. Door bug is not fixable though without changing the background.
2-4: You are.
2-6: again, try this without tools
2-Castle: I actually thought of that but yeah, I changed it up, so you can't reach the switch without the snake block anymore.

Yeah, but by tools I mean saves and loads only, not input for individual frames.

2-6 can technically be done without saves and loads.

For 1-5, never mind. I overlooked something.

Also for 1-4, what is the use of the area above the screen then? I havn't looked at the editor, and I can't manage to jump over the ceiling.

Really enjoying this hack so far. BTW, if you want to fix the exploit (?) that Skawo used in his playthrough of the switch block puzzle room in 1-Castle, you could create "non-walljumpable blocks" by creating solid blocks that use the tile sub-type of "Sideways Spikes or Collapsible Stairs ??". You'd probably want to give them a different appearance as not to confuse the player.

Can't you just change the tile behaviour used by the tiles spawned by the tilegod directly in the jyotyu?

Skawo didn't wall-jump on a tile created by the tile god - it was one that was already there.

the hack is finished and I doubt said tile is used anywhere else than the for the bonus room. even if it was, you can just put a second copy in map16 and use it if you're not using the tilegod with that specific tile for another room.

Rather than having the other toad houses crash the game, you should make it so you just enter the level to a black background (with mario under the view), and it warp you out using the toad house "entrance to world map" configuration. Or disable those toad houses using the first world map editor.

After watching playthroughs and finding own improvements I release Version 1.1 today containing a lot of fixes.
You find a detailled changelog under the download (it's long, I'm sorry).

Download

Changelog:
General:
- added actor spare-asm by meromero to prevent 1-UP rains
- changed mega mushroom- and item houses to not instantly kill you
- a lot of smaller adjustments

Levels:
1-1:
- fixed thwomps getting stuck in U-stones
- fixed dry bones glitching in stone

1-2:
- fixed boss fight wall looking the wrong way
- increased timer a little bit

1-3:
- improved indication for first star coin a bit

1-4:
- fixed an arrow sign causing confusion
- redesigned area around the 3rd star coin a bit

1-5:
- fixed out of bounds-kill not being consistent
- moved stone block to match with ground
- moved 1-Up to spawn later

1-Castle:
- reworked end area to prevent getting stuck
- added arrows to show the direction of the spike balls
- improved second star coin puzzle

2-2:
- replaced boss door to prevent glitch animation

2-3:
- re-textured boss stage

2-4:
- fixed missing path in boss stage

2-Tower:
- fixed second star coin opener not getting triggered sometimes
- removed unfair buzzy beetle

2-6:
- fixed Bowser Jr. glitching out the ceiling
- removed unnecessary podoboo

2-Castle:
- removed ability to skip the first section by swimming

I found another glitch in 2-5:

Mario can jump on lava, maybe ¼ second.

Don't quite know whether it is a glitch of the original game or not, and I only tried these two spots
