Yeah, it's a bit of a vague statement. It'd also be nice if these PSAs appeared on mobile NSMBHD, assuming this is something important.

Probably purging a lot of dead/useless threads, users, etc, making everything look nice

My guess at least

They might be deleting banned and inactive users (such as all the reregs.) and might be redesigning the site a little. Would be cool if they changed the theme up a bit

I was a bit confused as well

That's me. My apologies for the suddeness.

I plan to organize the board.
What I've got in mind is mostly one big effort to harvest information scattered across the board and to make it into categorized tutorials. I do not mod this game anymore, but I'd like to pass on all the knowledge I've piled up during my active time.

This is what I had in mind when I asked for a promotion. I was sick of seeing newbies ask the same questions again and again because they couldn't find the information. I've seen for myself how scattered the board's contents can be: I remember seeing valuable advice just buried in the rubble.

I figured I'd give a heads up before to get started, as I do not own the place by any means.

That’s fantastic! Thierry has been a great mod overall and I’m proud of her works. This will be really good for the board

Interesting. Does this mean anything will be deleted permanently? Will any threads be moved? Or is Thierry simply compiling information into new tutorial threads?

I'll answer this inquiry.

I'll make a formal PSA at a later date once plans are actually set in stone, which will depend on what I can manage and what more is needed.

The cleanup will be centered primarily around threads/posts.

Making things look nice is more of an afterthought. What matters most is ease of access to any content that's hosted on the board. This involves three major points: content (ROMhacks, resources, etc), information (all the knowledge scattered about) and unwritten content.

What's unwritten content? Essentially all we know about the game but can't be bothered to write down because there's no proper place for us to. I will be attempting to write down any knowledge I have that could be of use, for example. It might provide an incentive for others to do the same.

Regarding purging users.. as previously stated, completely nuking an account has repercussions on all ID tables and, in case of users who have made posts, pokes holes in discussions.
Spam accounts are usually nuked when they are caught before any user interference renders the intervention impossible.

The board software will remain unchanged lest we have a good reason to suggest a change.. which will require  Dirbaio's intervention.

As for themes. The themes we have as of right now are indeed rather bland.
The decision of whether or not to upload them rests on  Dirbaio's judgement, but you are welcome to suggest themes ideas in a separate thread. Do note that you have to be as precise as possible and you have to be realistic. Suggesting too many ideas is not recommended.

Threads will be moved if a new structure is established. Obsolete threads might be archived. I will not proceed to any careless deletion.

Ah, that's great to hear. The site could really benefit from some sort of centralization of information and hopefully it'll encourage newbies to continue NSMB hacking.

isn't the wiki supposed to be a centralized source of information? it's just that people aren't really contributing to it

Yeah it's supposed to be but let's not kid ourselves

Who actually checks the wiki?

It'd be better we have all the info right here, especially for new users so it's easy to access.

I've had a conversation regarding this.

I do think the board could benefit more from the wiki. Some things would probably be better to put on the Wiki than in threads. Tutorials might be one of those things. I mean, it's nice if there's a thread where people can ask questions about the topic, but additional stuff could be added by several users to the tutorial itself if it was stored on the wiki instead.

The Wiki is already plenty full of tutorials, so we might as well keep going.
We'll be doing both. Threads, and the Wiki.

I did consider using the Wiki for objective and definitive tutorials. That being said, threads are fine for personalized tutorials and are somewhat more accessible (I imagine a lot of people don't check the wiki). The Wiki "software" is merely a stub.

One example of a "personalized tutorial" would be the way I do music hacking. My tools and methods are obsolete, but they work. I have valuable advice to give to anybody who decides to go the same route I did.
I'll be making a thread explaining how I do things, but is that the best way to do it? Nope. I don't know a thing about Gota7's tools, for example.
Ideally, the tutorials on the Wiki should reflect the most efficient and modern methods we have. I'll do what I can, but I'll leave further refining beyond what little I know to others who have more knowledge.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen the major actors who put effort into maintaining the Wiki are  Hiccup and  poudink, with some assistance from  KingYoshi. These folks have been essentially running the wiki all by thier own which is commendable. I won't step over this achievement and cancel the wiki.

For there to be no conflicts, we'll simply be doing both options. Threads and wiki each have upsides and downsides, and giving up either of them would do us a disservice to all the people that contributed towards those.

The infobox seems to have disappeared? Is this still happening?

I think the best option would be to update/finish the wiki, and just have a sticky thread that links to it.
