are you trying to make a point?
I'll be frank, to me it sounds like "if you guys made me admin this wouldn't have happened" is what you're getting it. one thing to take note of: everybody just started school, and if you addition this to the current circumstances here, this is to be expected. I'm going to tidy up the board a bunch. in the meantime, the board stays as-is because we're not magical and school/jobs take up most of our time. |

I just noticed it. I haven't seen this "72 hours of no posts" message before. |

I was expecting this to happen... I noticed that on recent days, this board was less active than it was before, and I remember only two or three lines of posts appearing in the "Last posts" page, and I was saying "someday no posts will appear on this page". If this board was more active today like in the board's earlier years, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have happened.
As a bonus, here's a desktop version of that screenshot: _________________________ |

Okay, so; firstly, apologies for jumping on you with that. it just seemed so in line with your previous history I made the connection instantly, without asking you to clarify your intentions first.
Now. when you start a thread, you're opening a topic to discuss. it means you have something to say, to point out. that's at least a possible interpretation to consider. you come in with a sarcastic title, a screenshot and no text. what am I supposed to gather from that? and now you get all defensive. ten out of ten, great communication. I'll give you some credit because I reacted in a biased fashion; I've had a bad opinion of you, and I don't believe a person's core can change in so little time. your public apology did not change that. |

It was August 2016 though. Three years ago. EDIT: But thanks for the apologies. |

granted, time flew by on my end. I did not take notice of how long ago it actually was; this place has been frozen in time since then.
my opinion doesn't have to change, though. this aside. would you mind to explain what you were intending when making this thread, if anything at all? going by what you said, this was a shot in the dark. |

No, of course not. I'm not demanding you anything, though of course I hope this will change overtime. this aside. would you mind to explain what you were intending when making this thread, if anything at all? going by what you said, this was a shot in the dark. No special reason. I just noticed that "72 hours of no posts" message that I hadn't seen before and found it funny. |

alright, then the argument is over. I have to admit, I'm more than glad this didn't turn into unnecessary drama.
I'll request that next time you clarify your intentions first, though, especially if you have history around the place. that will enable you to avoid such trifles. on the topic of /lastposts/ being marked dead, well.. it's actually not the first time this has happened, I myself recall it's happened twice before. as I pointed out earlier, you can attribute this one to both start of school and the overall inactivity of the place. now, we won't be looking to fix "the inactivity issue" quite yet, because there's no clear solution for this. there are ways to help, but the root problems of this board need to be addressed first. this is why I'm here. I'll start indexing the information spread across the board, organize it and fill the holes. we could have tutorials for pretty much everything if we tried. anyway, this will take plenty of time so I won't do it all at once, being hasty will not make it go smoother. ..now if only homework could fuck off. |

Yeah this has happened already before and the same thing will happen again in a few months or so. 1) Activity dies down after a while 2) Nobody posts for X amount of time 3) "Board is dead" or something similar 4) Sudden activity 5) We go through this whole debate or so about what to do 6) Eventually forgotten 7) Back to step 1 That's just how it be for now /shrug _________________________ "I strikingly thought you would know how but it clearly seems you have no knowledge of hacking" - MiiU 2017 |

There's quite some things that could already been done, like indexing those informations indeed, and some thread reorganisations. I actually have quite some free time for the time being, though due to my position and history, I'm not really able to help.
There's also elements we cannot change, like the general decrease in NSMB hacking. |

bah. if Super Mario Maker came much earlier, we wouldn't have gone out of our way to do what we love.
Nintendo had to sell, though. so that would've been fully impossible. I don't hold SMM responsible for much, ROMhacking interest was already falling into a black hole. a lot of things are. as for the steps you mentionned, there hasn't actually been major debate; at least not with some key elements: -at least one admin ready to take free time and invest it into cleaning up the place where possible. -contact with Dirbaio. this one being utmost important: remember how the staff here left due to him being fully unreachable. there's less activity in romhacking and thus it's less attractive for newcomers. the site itself lacks life as it is, there's no fresh content nor activity in there- nothing for them to see. it's both the site and romhacking that are on a more-than-obvious decline. some of it you can't fight against, some you can. rather than try and save the scene though, I'd rather invest my time making this board justice, leaving behind a clean legacy. |

It doesn't help that Nintendo has burnt people out on 2D Mario
There will always bigger market for SM64 hacks or Mario Kart custom tracks and the like over 2D Mario, even then, we don't really have the same kind of community feedback loop those games do. Maybe Nintendo leaving SMM2 to slowly die out is what we needed or some other thing third comes a long, but who knows. _________________________ "I strikingly thought you would know how but it clearly seems you have no knowledge of hacking" - MiiU 2017 |

Mhm.. So this is one of the main ideas I have been suggesting since more than three years. Anyway, despite the things that happened, I may still offer my help, should not enough people be able to help with this atm. EDIT: Posted by TruelyJohn64 It doesn't help that Nintendo has burnt people out on 2D Mario Not 100% sure what you mean by this, but I've noticed Nintendo has been milking out the NSMB concept. There wasn't enough variation in the four games (plus NSLU), and that's why a lot of people have kind of had it with the series and want something actually new. I think this also causes decreasing in interest in NSMB hacks. To make it interesting enough, you'd have to create stuff like new items and gimmicks, but this requires ASM skills. |

Two years ago when Newer was still in the works the thread was getting 5-8 posts every day. The activity spiked up, people became interested in hacking this game, but I'm pretty sure nobody here is ready to make something as huge as Newer Team did.
I think even though there's only <20 of us, restarting the Community Remix may be the right thing to do. ASM hacks do make people feel they are playing a brand new game, but changing the graphics of the title screen, world map textures, music, etc. can also trick players into thinking the same way. Edit: grammar issues _________________________ Check out these awesome hacks! Beyond DS is now my major hack! |

I love that idea, but nobody is motivated enough to restart the community remix. Nobody has time to do it, and we barely have time to work on our own projects. Life likes to get in the way a lot

Life likes to get in the way a lot I agree with this. It's just so hard to be focused on something when there is so much other things to do. And sometimes people ask you help which can also take part of your time. My ROM hack is currently in the works, but going secretly on a Discord server, it is supposed to revolutionise Mario Vs Luigi hacking as a base for other hacks of it. It will even have co-op support and for those who can only play in single player I made a key combo (L + R + B + A) which will boot the player into single player mode. _________________________ NSMB Hacking Discord |
