Also, if it was your story the entire game would need to be snow themed.

omgno
You can play as Luigi, and that would also require a custom boss.
Thats not even problems with the story!

I mean, why would Luigi hate Peach? And its not like he hates Mario either.

If the slope is the one above the grass, it means that the slope was created after the grass thus has higher layer priority; you just have to delete the grass and create a new one, because the latest created tile always has the highest priority.

Actually, you can use the page up and page down keys on your keyboard to layer .

May I recommend HxD as an alternate hex editor?

I use it too, I agree it should be added.

What do you mean castle? The castle on the world map?
If that's the case, you can't just edit the texture, it would still have the shape of a castle.

But, it's possible another way, first you need to make the model and textures yourself in a modeling program, then use mkDScm to import it and export it as a nsbmd file, pr you can use 3ds max with nintendo nitro plugin to rxport it as nsbmd.

When you are done that, you want to replace all the castle models with yours, just go to the 'Map' folder and find the files called w(1-8)_castle and import your model.

Is it just me, or are the colours off on that SMW grass tileset?

Although it certainley won't be as powerfull as ROM hacking, ot is great to see Nintendo intrested in creating such things as this. I do like the editor, though. It may not be the best but it looks pretty good.

EDIT: Also, nice to see they removed that ugly filter on the SMB1 tileset.

WOO! I'm really exited for this, it looks almost just as good as Newer Wii, just without all those crazy ASM hacks.

Seeing as there are no tutorials on here like this, I thought I'd make one.

NOTE:
This works better in older versions of paint.net, because the brush tool got some changes, but the images here where made with the new version.

STEP 1:
Draw an outline for your tile with the pencil tool in the coulor of your choice. It doesn't matter if it looks bad as long as you have the shape.

STEP 2:
Make a new layer over your sketch, and draw over the outline with the brush tool, and then remove the lower layer.

STEP 3:
Now fill in the coulor using the brush tool. Simple stuff.

STEP 4:
Shade in the bigger parts of your tile. I usually use about 5 coulors (2 dark, 2 light and the main coulor) on each section of the tile, notice how paint.net blends them automatically.

STEP 5:
Shade in the details, again I use 5 coulors.

TOTAL TIME:
About 2 minutes

Now hey, that looks alright! with a bit more time it could be a lot better, though, like for example this SMB2 veggie I made only with the brush tool.

Its fine, your version is much better anyway. I tryed to make it look better but couldn't think of what to add, I'n glad you improved it.

And you did a great job with that tileset, too! the grass could use some more shading but overall I think you did a good just converting it from snow to grass.
