The frames on the portraits are part of the object, but I have to change them a little bit so they don't look so square.

EDIT:

Looks better now.
I wonder, if you could make a darker variation of it.
Like, you could make a level revolving around lighting areas (2 areas, same layout, just the lightened BG n stuff is different, exit is on the lightened area)

You just gave me a great idea, actually.

You could try  TRS method of having more quality when making tilesets. It also works for 4 palette tilesets, so you can have much more detailed objects.

The problem with them isn't so much as the amount of Colours it's limited to, the problem lies more in that the images have been scaled down in size compared to the original textures from Luigi's Mansion, so there's not enough resolution to display the texture in all of its glory.

Apply a blur filter of 1 or 2 pixels to the BG, then make it darker, then import it again. Will look muuuuch better.

If that's the case then, you could try to modify them by hand...to make them look more polished instead of a downscaled texture. But that could be hard to accomplish...

That's basically what I did with the original BG, and the result was the second version. I think as it is now is fine, though.

Thank you Mr Backseat Mod. If you sum the amount of work he's done in each world, it can be considered equivalent to one full world.

Ruedajv10 does have a point though. While I do almost have two worlds worth of levels finished for the hack, only two of those levels are actually released to the public. The beta patch included in the first post only contains 1-1 and 4-1. So this thread technically is still breaking the rules. I brought this up here at one point but it was ignored.

EDIT: On the bright side though, I've only got one level left to finish before I release the second private beta.

You've already asked me this. If I didn't say "yes" the first time, why would I say it now? I've said this before many times, I'm not taking any new testers any more.

Really, really late response here, but... where are the original images located? If I get the chance I might be able to try to fix them up.

I have no idea where I found them...

I just went through a few google searches for "Luigi's Mansion Textures", don't know where they are, though.

Found a few of them, and tried to re-scale them:

Some blocks, like the ones in the top-right corner, I just couldn't figure out what they were supposed to be. :<

That door looks good, I might use it.

But I've been working on remaking the frame of the picture myself, it's looking a bit less resized which is nice.
