I'm for removing the score, but the other idea doesn't sound that good. Karma should reflect quality and only quality, and therefore shouldn't include postcount or anything in the like.

Offtopic:

just a suggestion.
i've seen on everyone is an admin day a kind of list that shows how much posts and threads where deleted per user.
can that list be public, to know if you are walking on thin ice.
that would also improve some post quality.

That page is visible to anyone here: http://nsmbhd.net/postquality/
Except it's now broken, lol. I'll fix it.

Mega-Mario: Well, if you make a post or thread and it doesn't get deleted, you did "something" good, even if it's just a little. Given that getting a post deleted takes away much more karma, I don't think it's a problem.

I don't know why, but I have a feeling that weight of +1 is too low, considering how rarely the community gives it. I rarely saw posts with +1, and even more rarely with more. Then again,  Dirbaio has lots of karma, even considering just 10 points. Also, I think there should be a small bonus for posts that aren't removed, especially considering HUGE penalty for removed/trashed posts. Also, what about replies to removed threads?

Well, I hope that with this update, +1's will become more common.

About penalizing for replying to a thread that's later trashed... I'm not sure it's a good idea. If a thread is entire spam and people post there to get postcount++, we can simply delete postcount++ posts.

So how do karma votes work in the new system, are they weighted the same as before? If so, they should probably be worth more seeing as they were the original purpose of karma.

But what if you posted in the past in an hack that got deleted by the "Big cleanup"
will your karma then also get lowered?

No.  Dirbaio already confirmed that in reply to my post.

Karma uservotes count the same as before: 5 for normal user, 10 for mod, 15 for admin.

I've made it count very little compared to everything else on purpose, so karma reflects more whether people like your actions, not whether people like you.

Wesley: Yep, posts in deleted/trashed threads don't count. Only if *your* threads get deleted/trashed.

Ironically enough  Dirbaio, it seems you've lost the most karma due to deleted posts/threads. I believe your karma was at 335 before this new system was implemented.

EDIT: Minus deleted things, your karma should be at ~2400.

Maybe not ironic, but definitely logical.
I mean he is the one who is the closest of achieving the Star Mario rank, but that also means he is the one who is the most "at risk" of having one or several of his posts deleted statistically speaking, even if he is staff.

The fact that  Dirbaio have (far ?) less karma than in should (according to  TRS observation) shows that he plays by his own rules and doesn't put himself on a pedestal, which is always appreciated (how high is his karma is irrelevant in that context).

Oh yeah, because I can sense an incoming shitstorm, the users who (will) bitch (they know who they are) about how their karma is so low in the negatives, you know it's not like it's the end of the world, there is always room to improve, but it's not the staff task to spoon feed you.
Heck that guy, Thierry, was banned twice and he is still there, that proves how forgiving the staff can be.
Like  Arisotura said, you should be glad that he didn't outright banned you and instead is giving you a chance to improve your behavior, and you should really take that chance.

Well, if they bitch, they should remember all the deleted posts/threads, and see how low quality they are to the board, and hope to improve :>

Also it seems there is an influx of more +1 :>

Actually, you made that worse. Before my karma could only go up by 5 if some new guy liked me. Now that same guy could make my karma go up by about 3000.

I've some suggestion. You see, let's say that somebody has -1000 karma. Now, even if user would improve, he wouldn't even get to the 0 karma. In my opinion, negative karma caused by removed posts should slowly lose meaning, depending on post age, in order to let such user have sane amount of karma, and to give a chance to have positive karma, even for people with lots of negative karma.

Blah, enough of this.

We made this change to encourage post quality and we're not undoing it. Next person to whine about it gets a ban.

Well, one thing that I wonder is, how users who have lots of negative karma will ever get to 0 or more again.

Kinda like what GlitchMr said.
