I don't really know what drives the urge in so many people to remake the original Super Mario Bros. But nonetheless, this is a very good effort. And lost levels! Wow. I loved Lost Levels =D

Well, being a popular game on the franchise is easy to see why they are so many remakes...(like in SMW)

I just wanted to try the "remake" area on romhacking, and since SMB just had 30 something levels, why not to bundle it up with the lost levels?

Yes, of course. It's just that to me- after a while playing the same levels do get a little stale. Remakes don't really introduce anything new. Of course you can still compliment the original game by 'fixing' it up, or even adding new content. Such is the direction of the SMB3 hack, made by.. person who's name escapes me. x3

But no, I do like the idea. And I haven't seen many lost levels remakes, so that's always nice.

That's why I'm adding extras areas to all the levels, in which will hide the starcoins. Much like mini custom levels, without altering the original level, and they are all optional (unless someone wants to play the A,B,C levels)

And its SKjmin who made the remake of smb3.

Of course, good idea. I'd also say don't be afraid to add your own little touch to the original level design too. You don't have to of course, but I tend to stay away from most remakes. For the effort, it's really quite desrved. Extra areas are of course very welcome though. Just my thoughts.

I have been trying to redo the lost levels rubble/gravel/rocks/ground, whatever it is GFX with a new one.

Here's the current one:

And here is the new design:

I did the fully recolored one, but it looks out of place. I tried to make it look rocky. Also I could try to make it more assorted, instead of the diagonal pattern in the design.

So which one is better?

Hmm...

I think the new one looks better. It really just goes along with the whole 'compliment" thing. I like!

The new one is really awesome.
Although you should also make the top tiles a bit darker so that they can be clearly distinguished from the BG.

I think that it's pretty clear where the tiles end and the background starts. I like the second one, it makes the first one look a little... dull. And you should probably give the scenery the same palette.

Ill try to. Thanks for pointing it out

The scenery looks like it has a washed out brown color.

What do you think of the lost levels clouds?

I cant use the cloud sprite as I need a sprite set for the level.

Use for lesson's media.

So now, Let's start!

<font color=#F7A22F>Step 1:</font>
Extract your zip first, then open xdeltaUI.exe

<font color=#F7A22F>Step 2:</font>
Follow 1st arrow.
(Click on first Open button. )
Then choose your .xdelta file (where you extracted it)
Then the box should be filled by paths.

<font color=#F7A22F>Step 3:</font>
Follow 2nd arrow.
(Click on second Open button. )
Then choose your clean, fresh and original (U) rom as  gridatttack said. (Don't ask where!)

<font color=#F7A22F>Step 4:</font>
Lastly, Follow the 3rd arrow. (the ... button)
Choose where do you want to save your patched rom. (preferred easy-to-find place.)
Then click Patch

<font color=#F7A22F>Step 5:</font>
However, the product, as you see, it's not having any extension. , so you just rename it then add .nds at the back.
Then finished! Enjoy!

Just telling everyone that despite losing all willpower to finish the hack, I have decided that I would do the following:

At first I decided to make the extra areas in the level that had the starcoins to be somewhat big as the level itself, but the problem is that this required more time to plan the level (I tried to actually remake a smb1 hack as the extra levels, but the idea was scrapped).
Instead, now I have planned to make the extra areas compact, & in little size, each area for a starcoin; total 3 extra areas. (about 2 to 5 256 blocks in size)
I found out that I can actually make them, as they will require little time to make them.(Exceptions includes, as some levels will have the 3 areas in one size, with all starcoins in it with the length of a level, instead of little areas)
(In case you are wondering, the reason I decide to put these extra areas, is because just the remake levels would be ok, but I wanted to add more time into playing the hack. The limitations are that I dont want to modify greatly the original levels, son the extra areas will be usually entered by a pipe in the orinal level)

So that's all I want to say. This hack is not dead. I should be uploading the first video for world 8, and for the record, all original levels are already in the game, with the exception of the last 2 castles because I want to get the loop sprite working.

I decided to experiment UI editing. I have so far only changed a backdrop, but I plan to redo some icons.
Here is the image:

As you see, I simply changed the smb1 backdrop to have the graphics of smb: the lost levels, to kinda set the mood

More stuff coming in the way.

If the pipes in remaked levels lead to custom bonus rooms - then it won't really be a smb remake anymore.
Maybe you should use this method:
