edit: solved.

so uh why won't mario actually go behind the tiles
i already put the area where the 3d tiles are supposed to load but nothing happens
all of the files are still intact so i'm not really sure what could be happening

you see, i already have both the tiles Mario goes behind and where the flag comes up placed in the editor.
it’s just that Mario still goes in front of those tiles (as shown above), and the flag never goes up.

Basically, the 2 special tiles aren’t doing anything. i don’t know why, and can’t find a solution.

I’ve even tried playing non-edited levels, and the tiles still do nothing.

either you messed with the sub nohara tileset or you messed with polygon_unit

well i replaced sub nobara and still had no luck
but yeah i have played around in polygon_unit
i replaced a few mushroom textures, i guess that may have done something

well, i even tried the playing unedited levels (straight from the game) and the tiles didn’t even work there
those tiles were there by default, yet Mario still didn’t go behind them
and yes, I always add the special tiles in, so it’s not my fault

Then you must have messed with polygon_unit. That's the only explanation I can think of. You must have deleted the graphics that are supposed to go in front of Mario.

here’s the problem:
i already checked those files and everything is still perfectly intact.
so...
well my only option now is to replace them manually to see if that gets them working, but i can’t do that now so idk

i actually did use that a long time ago
i never did anything about it but i did import it into my rom anyways
so apparently that’s why
