Hello there,
I was wondering if there are any tutorials or explanations on how to replace the models in the game.
I want to add a custom model replacing Mario, but I don't know where to start or what to do.

I appreciate any help I can get!

currently, the only way to edit models is by illegally acquiring old 3DS Max or Maya versions and SDK 3D Nitro plugins.

I don't want to edit models, I want to replace them
I don't understand how replacing the models would require an old version of 3DS Max with SDK plugins

editing and replacing models require the same tools lmao. and it does require it because said SDK plugins are the only tools available that allow replacing models. well, that's not quite true, but it is when it comes to Mario's model and any other rigged model.

I don't think you need Maya or 3ds Max. Can't you just use that Mario Kart DS track editor to export objs as nsbdshrbdh files or whatever the file extension is? Or does that not work with Mario since he moves n stuff?

You can use this:

However if you want bone support in the game, you will need the SDK tools that will allow a more professional exporting.

When working with blender, export FBX, All scale, at scale 0.01.

Texture must be a power of 2 on both width and height and the maximum texture name length is 16 characters.

the question was about replacing mario, and if you want to replace mario, you need to have bones. neither MKDSCM or that model converter support them, so you have to use the SDK tools.
