In denial that someday the NSMB betas would be found since 2014

I've been trying to replace the Mario/Luigi Clear text but I'm having a bit of trouble with it. I found the text files in root/obj/A_text_marioclear.bin and root/obj/A_text_luigiclear.bin, but I can't find the associated palettes and I can't get it to render perfectly, the image tiles are sort of scattered.

At first I just tried just exporting it as it was using a placeholder palette and then re-constructed the image in GIMP out of the tiles. Then made my edited version and re-scrambled it to fit into the image and replaced the .bin file. It looks like the image was edited and upon viewing it in NSMBe it looks like my version, but upon trying to clear a course in-game the text still displays as the original. What am I doing wrong, and how can I get the image to export like intended?

As for what I'm trying to do with the text, I want to make it all-caps to look like the beta of NSMB.

Did you check "view in 4bpp format"? I don't think there is palettes for it if I rememember right. I edited mine a year ago in the NSMBe editor itself. Never had to export anything

This is the best I got it looking.

I might need to change the palette because some colours are missing. I'll try re-exporting it with another pallette and see if it works.

EDIT: Got it working!! Turns out the first time I tried to export it I must have forgotten to save or some nooby mistake like that. So here's what I did to get it working:

1. Exported the "Mario/Luigi Clear" images using a dummy palette that has all the colours of the source image

2. I remapped the palette to the correct one in GIMP and un-scrambled the image tiles.

3. I made the new clear text in GIMP.

4. I remapped the palette back to the old dummy palette and re-scrambled the image.

5. I replaced the original image using the dummy palette.

6. Success!

I can't quite find the right palette, but I did find one where the colors match. it's not the one used (I just tested swapping colors around in the palette, no result) but since the colors match you should be able to import your image just fine.

said palette is d_2d_UI_O_1P_game_in_o_ud_ncl.bin, palette 2.

I believe this text uses the jyotyu palette.

I'm not so sure. that was the first I tried after the enemy palettes didn't match.
it's listed as such on the wiki page, but the colors don't match this bitmap from the OP.

ed: I tried swapping colors around, no results. that means the wiki list is innacurate, though.

I believe this text uses the jyotyu palette.

If this forum's wiki is correct, you believe good.

I also believe d_2d_UI_O_1P_game_in_o_ud_ncl.bin's palette 2 is just a duplicate of jyotyu.
