One of these days, I realized how inactive the ‘Latest News’ section is… Over two years of nothingness until Arisotura's update on registration issues. So, here's my suggestion: each time someone finishes/releases a hack (like when it happened with Newer Wii), a staff member would post it in the aforementioned section so newcomers could see the activity and our potential too. However, these threads should be immediately closed, as the feedback would be posted in the relevant hack's dedicated thread, and this is the only disadvantage I find with the idea.
Do you agree? Please, share your opinions on this and point out good things about it if carried into effect, or otherwise problems that it may cause. Have a nice day, everybody! |

IMO that would work. The hack creator would ask an admin, who'd then make a thread promoting the hack, linking to the hack's dev thread.
The announcement thread itself may as well be closed upon posting, since you can go comment in the hack's thread. This may bring in some activity, who knows. |

Post of the day 9/8 mariokart7z.
Anyway, shitposts aside, I think this would be quite a good idea, especially since finished hacks are rather rare. Also, on the topic of generating interest/activity, maybe we should start up hacking contests again? _________________________ hey look, I did a thing |

I actually proposed this a couple weeks ago, but there wasn't much discussion about it. Glad to see that other people are also interested. New Super Mario Bros.: Clone Tag Team 1+2 / New Super Mario Advance + Take 2 / Super Mario: Endless Earth My two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. |

Well, see how truly active the scene is.
And to be entirely honest, I'm considering retiring. I mean, it's not fun when we have to deal with issues you can't fix, like some usernames getting blocked from registering, or names of staff threads being exposed via online.php. I kept bugging Dirbaio about those issues, but he never fixes them. There's also the fact that I don't do anything related to NSMB hacking anymore, and don't envision getting involved again. I don't know what I could bring at this point. All I do here is clean up the occasional shitstorm. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

Changed the thread's title to fit more with the discussion.
Posted by cros107 Also, on the topic of generating interest/activity, maybe we should start up hacking contests again? I thought of it too, but what will the contest winner actually win? What will happen to their level? What will be done with the other participants' levels? Posted by StapleButter Well, see how truly active the scene is. I don't know what I could bring at this point. All I do here is clean up the occasional shitstorm. I understand it may be difficult, but you're very important to this community as an admin. Just- stay for a little longer…? We'd be losing another staff member here; in my eyes, it's very serious. Blocked usernames and leaked restricted threads aren't that much of a problem, in my opinion, because new users could always type different nicks and people will never actually know exactly what staff are saying (and I can tell from experience that the online page is not the only way to discover said threads, though I may know a solution). The only issue I actually see is people teasing—like me—or asking staff members what those topics are about, when it's common sense they aren't allowed to know. Posted by poudink But then, there wouldn't be enough staff. You and Gridatttack are practically the only active admins. I agree. All in all, perhaps a new staff member would really help, and: Posted by Sherry A solution could be make someone administrator, a good user like MarioFanatic64 (yes, you're one of the best member here). I could not… |

Blocked usernames are an issue because the register page doesn't even tell you it's blocked, it says "error, try again", so people don't understand and keep trying.
I told Dirbaio a few times already. He still hasn't fixed it. All we can do is hope they will read my announcement on the home page. It's not much that alone, but more the fact that Dirbaio is letting the board rot in a not-so-good state. I mean, there's the issues I mentioned, but also the fact we still have no uploader as a result of the 'new NSMBHD' attempt that went nowhere, or other things like that. If this were Kuribo64, I would just address the bugs somehow, but here I can't do anything because I don't have server access, and yet I'm the recipient for board-related complaints because some people assume that I have the access to change these things. And who knows where NSMBHD is going? Is Dirbaio even paying the hosting/domain fees? Are we going to see NSMBHD go down because there's no money left? Anyway, we're considering a new admin, and he will surely be a member of the current staff. MF64 may be a good candidate, but we'll discuss it. I want to avoid the "X is competent so he will be a good admin" fallacy (RVLution was a very good example of that). Resigning would leave the board with one less admin and more potential for things going apeshit. But at the same time, it would relieve me of this duty. So I'm not going to leave uncleanly. The ideas like hacking contests are nice, but the thing is, while they could bring in extra activity, they do need a minimum level of activity to work in the first place, and I doubt NSMBHD has the needed level. After all, it's been 8 years. When NSMBDS hacking appeared, it had that exciting feel to it, it was all new. We haven't had that feel since then. All the NSMB games feel more like 'more of the same' and less like new games to discover. _________________________ Kuribo64 - zrghij |

I see where you come from. Well, at least we know you won't leave us hanging. I don't know why, but I've recently thought about the starting-over thing, but due to the circumstances, it's nowhere near possible. A new mod will be cool, and being competent may indicate potential, but not necessarily: it's all matter of serious discussion.
However, contests could had probably been done sometime ago when there was more activity and new users, don't know about now, I think I agree with you on that. And indeed, it's been eight years since you guys started NSMB ROM hacking, look at how much we've come; I doubt it would go unnoticed, it's just not the time right now that we got more activity. There's also many more creative possibilities of level design and such that could be employed in NSMB, who knows, maybe someone or sometwo (sic) are making an innovative hack, aside from MarioFanatic64 and skawo. I may have forgotten to say something else… I could not… |

Posted by Asproek I've recently thought about the starting-over thing, but due to the circumstances, it's nowhere near possible. Starting over to some pointless whole new board would be a terrible idea. You cannot port over all the info scattered everywhere, the knowledged community, the hacks, and general progress in nsmb hacking. It would have no beneficial effect. It won't rise the activity on long-term. And due to the recent wave of derpboards, I would rather stick to a single board. |

Asproek,
There are at least a couple of good looking hacks being made ATM. Newer special and star collect. Maybe another 1 or 2 if I've forgotten. But this site is far from dead. Although the past couple of weeks haven't been as active as usual, there are still plenty of posts relating to NSMB hacking every day. As opposed to, say, SM64DS hacking, where you'd be lucky to get 1 post a week (which are mostly newcomers asking when sunshine DS is being released). But I think dirbaio should consider giving server access to staple. He's shown his competence in the area with kuribo (and he must have amazing coding skills, to code a snes emulator for DS AND 3DS). Kuribo is becoming better and better, and NSMBHD just seems to be slowly dying. Just my thoughts. _________________________ hey look, I did a thing |

It's not that Dirbaio is against giving access to Staple. He's just.. not there.
I heard the only place Dirbaio was active is his facebook. |

@cros107, I didn't say this board was dead, though, maybe I didn't express myself correctly or you misunderstood my post – nonetheless, I agree with you.
And some hackers (e. g., pinet) don't get the recognition they deserve, in my opinion. Posted by Thierry It's not that Dirbaio is against giving access to Staple. He's just.. not there. I heard the only place Dirbaio was active is his facebook. Personally, I didn't want it to reach that point where we have to go to a site like Facebook just to ask him something in regards of his own board, but what else shall we do? :/ I could not… |

And some hackers (e. g., pinet) don't get the recognition they deserve, in my opinion. I don't know what this has to do with what I said, but I agree. Pinet has put a LOT of work into this site. From 2 full length hacks (IIRC) and a mini hack he's making, to giving reviews on just about everything released since he joined, to tutorials/showcases on half the ASM hacks that exist, he is certainly one of the lead contributors to this site. _________________________ hey look, I did a thing |
