I made one!
It's supposed to be an ice cave BG or something


So, for posting BGs.
We should post the 512x512 PNG instead of the already imported .nmb file.
But it'd be nice to check if the BG looks nice when importing, because of the tile reduction.

Some hints to make it look better:
- Remove unneeded parts of the BG! For example, I made the actual BG only 192px tall.
- Make the BG repeat itself. For example, that BG is actually 256px wide repeated 2 times.
- Align repeated stuff to 8 pixels!

Maybe it's too early to start assigning IDs to the BGs?
We'd also need to take into account animation and scrolling restrictions >.<
(Maybe these can be removed with ASM hacking easily, I don't know yet)

So far we have:

- Ice cave BG by  Dirbaio
- Sunset BG by  Dirbaio (not posted yet)
- Some cave BGs I'll make
- Some Pyramid BGs I'll make.

So let's do backgrounds guys!
It's easy!
You can even grab images from the internetz and adapt it to look right as a BG

Making that BG was fast
I grabbed this image: http://honey-stock.deviantart.com/art/ice-texture-for-oss-funfair-167357464
Then cut a 256x192 image out of it.
Then I applied Filters -> Artistic -> Cubism
Then I made it tileable using Map -> Make seamless (VERY USEFUL FILTER!)
Then I played a bit with Brightness/Contrast to make it darker and bluer.
Then I made it 512x512 and copied it two times.



And I say that "we have" these because we can count on having them because I *will* make them for sure.

I have this BG that could be used for something. I had this a couple of years ago, to be used for the SMB3 Hilly tileset. I wonder if they could be used?

Yeah I know. I didn't make them. A friend of mine did them a year or 2 ago and I didn't liked the coloring of the hills too...
Anyway I posted them here so maybe they can get some use, or be edited. Instead of sitting neglected at my PC.

You should just put the top of the hills at the bottom of the BG then.

I gave some Autumn trees a shot, it's good for vertical levels.

I haven't made the Bottom BG yet.



If you're wondering why the edges of the bushes are lighter, it's because I'm trying to emulate realistic lighting effects.

Maybe it's a bit too regular and repetitive... Moving the trees around a bit would make it look cooler

Also the earth has one moon not over ninethousand, unless where SMB is set is a different story, but there is no way to prove that.

Yes, the moon must be deleted. But it's not a Polar Star Sky without a moon... the background in a level:
