Guys, I seriously don't see any reason to remake Mario's voice. It's pretty much standard across all of the Mario games, and anything remotely different would sound weird.

Yeap that's exactly what I meant when I was saying I'm not sure of remaking Mario's voice. Also, to do it we'd still need to hack the SDAT, because the ASM hack only replaces BGM, not sound effects.

As a side note, I fixed the HDMA bugs caused by the sound thread, and I figured out how to make the music start/stop properly when the game wants it to. Now only the music is missing!

Maybe we should use some of BowieZ's music tracks?

Back when I was making NSMB2, I asked him if I could use his music for the hack (I was a n00b and thought it would be easy to copy/paste an .mp3), and he gave me full permission to use them.

He's made a lot of fanmade Mario themes, and some of them might fit quite well with the Community Remix.

You've got some pretty nice tracks! I like them.

But I don't think any of them would really fit a game like NSMB.

If you'd like to make some tracks for the NSMBCR, I invite you to. As long as it fits with the NSMB style, I'm sure people here would gladly have in in the hack.

There's no need to use the exact NSMB soundfont...
You'll be able to get much more creative if you use any instrument you want

We're using a method of Music Hacking where we don't have to worry about the DS's limited music capabilities. All we really need is .mp3's (I gather)

I assume it's because they would like to keep the ROM filesize as small as possible. They don't consider it with console games and such because they are already so large it doesn't make much difference.
