Well, added a patch to make it so the screen doesn't switch when you check the "display on bottom" option, so you can use it as inventory prevention.

But, not sure how to make the item also be greyed out. You can't get it, but it still appears colorful. I found when the check for this is done, just not sure how to rewire it into activating anyway.

Well, I could probably fix this if you'd want.

Do you?

I can probably fix the 10 seconds thing.
About the level finishing? Not sure. Perhaps.

It doesn't look like your sprite does what you said it does at all. It doesn't exit the level when you touch it, it just exits the level after the timer goes out. I found that the timer in your level gets placed at 0x021B6198, but disabling it will just never make the exit level happen.

In fact, I would wager that the game actually sets the Toadsworth's nybble to this so that you exit out of the house when you finish a minigame.

Thing is, if this "unused" nybble is actually internally used to end the Toad Houses, hacking it to mark level as beaten may break stuff.

What's stupid about that? The fact it doesn't resemble a crown? That just directly stems from the DS resolution, the crown actually does look like one in-model.

I'll apologize from the get go, as this is probably something that's been discussed before, but I couldn't find much on it...

How would one go about using the duplicate tileset/background slots? I've seen someone say it requires one to switch the files they use to some other files in the ROM, but I haven't seen an explanation of how one would do that.

I've also seen someone say that version 5.1 of the editor could do just that automatically, but it's disappeared off the face of the interwebz.

Thanks for the help.

Well, the world map tool will be useful for some things. Can't exactly reshape the paths with it yet, though.

are you gonna change mario and luigi head to mario sport mix head like you did in newer super mario bros. wii or just ignore it like that?

I've already tried, unfortunately they both use the same, tiny 16 color palette, meaning you can barely fit one of the icons in. As such, they're most likely not gonna be changed.

I can't use the tower theme in that little room because the level uses the area overflow and it'd cause the music to weirdly restart. Even if I could do it, though, I'm not sure I would; I'd want to put SOMETHING there to differentiate the outside area from the inside, and usually I'd do that by putting in some wind sfx, something I cannot do on the DS.

the tension

What tension? It's a Mario game, guys

Well, what would you suggest to put in there instead of the Good Egg Galaxy theme?

No, if I was going for a calmer song, I'd use Newer Wii's.

So, um, I have to wonder...
Why would you go from NCG -> SPA?

Wouldn't we want to shoot for converting pngs?

Yep, that does indeed work well enough.

Thank you very much for the help. Certainly earned another spot in the Newer DS credits.

So, uh, progress report!

I've been working on some castles and stuff lately. 'ts pretty much it. Finally decided to finish the World 2 one, as I've been putting off the rather big workload that had to be put in to create it. You can see it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=598TeSXcfWQ

Basically, music, the tileset, a background, making sure I wouldn't have anything in mind for a certain sprite so I could replace it and eventually also editing a sound set to make all the sound effects work.

The music came with another hurdle, as well, basically, I tried to fit the final castle song into the same SWAR as the airship one; I'm running out of SBNKs and SWARs, you see. That, however, failed, as there was no way to put all of that into 105KB.

I've also completed two rather complicated space levels and am about to finish the first space tower. I've also replaced the overworld icons and retextured World 6 to fit space.

Besides, what else could you thematically place on an airship? Fire/Hammer/Boomerang Brothers, maybe? There's the three other airships still to use those on, need to vary the enemies between the airship levels somehow, too.

Added two patches: one raises the amount of fireballs you have to shoot Bowser Jr. with for him to die to 18 (just like in NSMBW). The other makes groundpounds do the same amount of damage as normal jumps; not complete, as he still dies if you first do a jump and then groundpound.

May do the first patch for all the bosses if I decide it'd be a good idea to use in Newer DS or if someone would want those patches.

So, uh, the very first star coin in the game relies on a glitch?

...I'm pretty sure most people would turn off the game immediately after learning that.
