I've been seeing this game being sold a lot on eBay for the last few days, and it's been catching my eye. I have Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga for the 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story for the 3DS, and I have Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time emulated for the PC.

I'm getting paid next Wednesday, I wanna make a good investment on this game, I hope you fellas can gimme some honest feedback, thanks.

Paper Jam is easily my least favorite Mario & Luigi. I found it quite boring. I don't recommend it.

Well, uh, after playing the game when it first came out a few years ago, my honest opinion was... it's just... there.
Sure it's a whole new adventure and Paper Mario is with you but the plot is just overall so... bland.

There's no special memorable characters unlike it's predecessors; all you get is the basic cast of characters and Bowser kidnaps peach AGAIN.

It's the same battle system, except you get Paper Mario's trio attacks which are kinda cool, but other than that there's no difference.

They really tried to advertise and stretch out how cool the game was on the only fact that it merged with the Paper Mario world, but they just did a horrible job of doing it. There was a lot of potential that they had for this game, and it wasn't executed well at all. I think this game was the downfall of Alphadream.

It's honestly imo, a waste of money. I'd stick with the classics like Superstar Saga, Bowser's Inside Story, and Dream Team.

all criticism is subjective; you may very well enjoy the game just fine. but nonetheless, a lot of people mourn how Paper Jam underuses the potential of the paper mario universe.
namely, it uses only the most well-known, mainstream and boring characters (ones you can find without fail in recent paper mario games since sticker star) at the expense of all characters that are unique to any of the paper mario games.

even neverminding that, Paper Jam does fairly little with what it gave itself to work with, be it the whole "paper universe" theme or the characters they do use.
it all feels like the Alphadream devs were overly restricted throughout the development process. I'd blame Nintendo for that.

Honestly not a bad game, though very rushed and you can obviously tell AlphaDream was struggling to stay a float.

If you're looking for a game with plot and substance you wont find it here (Not like Mario usually has that either). It's just a simple fun romp around the Mushroom Kingdom with Paper Mario in tow.

Gameplay wise the battles are top notch, they perfected the M&L battle system and battle cards are a neat addition to the game that serve as a better replacement to badges.

Though on the overworld side there is some padding with Toad missions and the Nabbit parts of unlocking Bros. Moves, not really a deal breaker but still not really all that fun.

I wouldn't try to buy it for too much but if you can find it cheap I'd say give it a shot.
It's definitely my second favorite just for the battle system alone and music, my motto is "If it's fun just to run around and exist in the world it's a good game"

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I really appreciate it.

I was looking on eBay again and I see that Paper Jam goes for $40.00 USD used, I won't spend that much for that game. I'll get Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars and two more Mario Mini games that are download only for the 3DS.

I know I'm very late but no, Paper Jam isn't too good. I'd recommend you just get another Mario and Luigi game such as Superstar Saga if you don't have it already. Dream Team is also good along with Partners in Time (most of them are available natively on 3DS except Partners in Time, which is backwards compatible anyways bc its an OG DS game).
