So, in my hack, I made a custom jyotyu tileset which uses the same palette as the original jyotyu tileset. Everything was going smoothly, until I tried to change "root/enemy/W_tobira.nsbmd", which is one of the door's textures. I quickly cropped out the door from my jyotyu and put it into W_tobira, but it just ended up messing up and the door texture was weirdly colored with many errors. I inserted the image many times, only to get the same result, being this:

Also, and I don't know if this is something about .nsbmd files, I can't edit the door texture within NSMBe.

the import feature of NSMBe isn't great. try it with MKDSCM.

I got MKDSCM, put in my rom, clicked on the model, but now what? It just shows my the model with some animations, but how do I edit the textures? So far, all of the tutorials don't really explain this...

export your model. you can use it standalone in MKDSe without needing to open the ROM everytime.

open MKDSe, split the NSBMD into a separate texture (NSBTX) and model (a blank NSBMD):

open the NSBTX in MKDSe, edit that and then merge it back with its model. reimport that into your ROM and you're done.
if you have more issues, do tell.

I selected Nitro System > NSBMD > NSBMD -> NSBMD + NSTBX, then selected the extracted W_toriba.nsbmd, which made another .nsbmd file. After the .nsbmd file extracted, it wanted to extract the .nsbtx file, but when I clicked "save", it said "Error 0" and it didn't extract the .nsbtx.

I tried a couple things, I'm not sure what's up with the door models. MKDSe fails to open them properly, let alone take them apart.

this model isn't one of those you can edit manually through NSMBe.
it's not so complex of a model, though, so you might be able to customize it fine through OBJ export. it's tricky for models with a lot of bones tied to animations, and this one has few.

Okay, I converted the model to a .obj file, but it won't open in Blender, even though it says it supports .obj files.

blender does support obj files. you need to import them in a blender project instead of trying to directly open them, if that's the problem you're having.

I put the .obj file into a Blender project and it worked, but it only showed the model without textures. I tried to insert the .mtl file, but it didn't do anything, and everywhere I went to see how to put on the .mtl file, the answer was always is unclear.

blender doesn't show textures by default. I don't remember how to get it to show them.

Set the viewing mode to material, and for extra effect select the object, go to Material Settings and check Shadeless.
