Hello. I am new to making hacks and I don't know what to make. I want to make a remake of an existing game or a remake of a ROM hack of a different game but I don't know what. Please let me know what would be easy enough for me to remake AND you might enjoy!

This forum mainly focuses on New Super Mario Bros. DS. There's been a remake of the original Mario Bros, and I think Super Mario Bros. 3 too. Super Mario World is taken as far as I know. Maybe Super Mario Bros. 2 would be cool?

EDIT: Nope. Super Mario Bros. 2 has already been remade by MarioFanatic64

I know it focuses on New Super Mario Bros DS... I am new to making NSMBDS hacks and I didn't know what to make. I want to remake something but I don't know what... I was thinking I could like port an NES hack like Super Mario Bros. 3 MIX or Mario's Adventure but I think I would need to ask the creators.. If you think of something, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

You could always do a remake of smb3 mix or mario's adventure as you said. I don't think you'd have to ask the creators, but you can always do it to be safe. Just keep in mind that a lot of things from those games can't be done without ASM hacking.

Or you could create an original hack.

I would do that poudink, but I would just change the levels a bit so I wouldn't have to do ASM hacks. Besides, the only hacking to video games that I have ever done, are NES graphics hacks..

the problem is that usually hacks use a game's mechanics to its fullest, so your remake might very well end up being underwhelming and unadapted.

frankly, you should try out making fully custom levels first before to head into remaking.

Maybe do custom levels, but have the feel of the original game, like how I am doing with NSMBU DS

Well, I don't want to make a custom level hack. I'm making a port of Super Mario Bros. 3 MIX named "New Super Mario Bros. MIX" Some levels will have to be changed a lot since I'm not doing ASM hacking like in World 7 of Mario 3 MIX where the gravity changes, I will just change that to be more platforming instead of gravity changing. I don't know what else I could port..

I say finish NSMB MIX first. working on multiple projects at once is rarely a good idea.
