They're unused world icons, used in the unused world select screen.

Keep in mind that you should not use more than 8 colors or you will screwed up your icons,friend

There is an asm that lets you do it but I do not remember and I did not use it, what I remember was that the result of the tutorial was made with those world balls that are in your footer

Yeah the asm hack lets you use 256 colors per icon. Also increases the colors you can use for the world map hud.
