I've never used that but look for nsmbe 5.3 it's easier here it is

SM64DSe can't edit NSMBDS textures, since SM64DS uses a different texture format (BTX) than NSMBDS (NSBTX).

For me, I usually use the colors that Mario/Luigi had on their textures and then I spread them out how I want them to be.

I meant you could copy the colors on mario and luigi's textures with the eyedropper tool, then you can use those colors to make your own textures, this is usually what I do so the fire cap doesn't get messed up.

I did not spoil it simply did not color, it was still white, one question is the cap on mario / luigi body

no it's a file called mario_head_cap/luigi_head_cap.

Note: Don't forget to export any files you'll replace, just in case
