What are you guys' thoughts? For me, it's exactly what I want- a hybrid console, like I was expecting, Wii U backwards compatibility, and just a great looking device.

Although I do have a few issues. First of all, the name. It kinda sucks. But that's fine. Second of all, the gamepad itself seems to be the entire console. The guy in the video just plugged his NX into some stand and he played on the TV. Unless that stand has some hidden processing power. Which would be cool. But it seems like everything is mostly done with that gamepad.

So, what do you think about the trailer?

Edit: Also, they showed a brief look at a new 3D Mario game, a new Mario Kart, and some shitty looking basketball game. Very happy with this direct.

Or the mario kart game could just be DLC. Hopefully not.

Wii U backwards compatibility

Nope. There is no Drive in that thing. But I assume they will port games to the new console.
I also assume that it is at the same power level as the WiiU, since the graphics of the shown games match the WiiU versions (I guess they are simply reusing the 3d World engine for a new 3d Mario?).

Really? I saw splatoon there, and it looked exactly like the wii u version. But NO DRIVE MEANS CARTRIDGES or nintendo has gone full-blown retard and made games only digitally available.

WiiU games might be provided via the, you know, eShop. Buy it again, more money for them, etc.

See that thing that looked like an SD Card? Yeah, that was the cartridges.

3D Mario, what can I say? Bringing back SM64's controls and what appears to be a hub world/open levels. Welcome back to my life.

That MK game looks like a port of MK8, but it has a few key differences like reserve items and King Boo as a racer.

Splatoon looked like it had new Inkling designs.

That "SD-card-looking thing" looks very similar to a DS/3DS cart. If it's retrocompatible with DS and 3DS, then COUNT ME IN!!!!!!
There's also those 5 port-looking thingies on the top of the "gamepad". Maybe they're expansion ports? Will a disk reader addon be released with Wii/WiiU compatibility? Or are they just controller ports? 5-PLAYER MULTIPLAYER GAMES CONFIRMED????

Honestly I love the new design, it's pretty much everything I wanted.

Also, here's a list of the Switch partners:

Meaning we'd get games from them, hopefully. So much third-party support.
It looks great, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get it.

How is it on the same level?

The NX was clearly shown running Skyrim Remastered, when the wii u could barely handle Darksiders II.

I've couldn't be so happier when I saw Zelda, Skyrim, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and a new 3D Mario Game at the Trailer. I really like the name Nintendo Switch and all those rumors turned out to be true. I would love to see Battlefield 1, Tekken 7 and Red Dead Redemption 2 coming on Nintendo Switch. I will pre-order it when is going to be available.

Seems you are correct.

Indeed, I hope they execute the 3D Mario well.

But I don't know why you're saying it looks like a Mario Kart 8 port. It seems brand new honestly, we just saw the basic foundation with people driving and a new track, and considering we saw King Boo and reserve items, honestly there's no reason to believe it's a port of MK8...?

EDIT: Oh...er, nevermind.

3D Mario has me super hyped. I picked up these things from the video:

-There's a shop called 'Crazy Caps', and on a related note, Mario's cap has its own physics. Maybe this indicates SM64-esque cap abilities that you can buy?
-There's a beacon in the distance in the village. Perhaps indicating where the goal is without forcing linear level design?
-There's an umbrella with floating purple arrows marked above it, I assume standing under it does something.
-The Recovery Heart from SM64 can be seen, indicating the Power Meter is back.
-No noticeable time limit or live count. Maybe they've finally forgone the useless arcade game tropes?
-There's a frozen fountain in the village and large chunks of ice in the background of the other area.
-There are NPCs in the village.
-Giant moon in the sky, and stars in the daytime? Galaxy? There's a noticeable curvature of the planet too if you pay attention.

The 3D mario does indeed looks nice.

Might not like 64, but it looks this one will remove the gripe and issues I had with 64.
Coop maybe? Playing 3D world with my brother was pretty nice.

From what I heard:
-For Switch, Nintendo will abandon the DVD format in favor of game cards.

- The Nintendo Switch will not feature backwards compatibility. It cannot read Wii U disks or 3DS cards.
No surprise here. Most launch titles are based on Wii U games, and the 3DS is kinda dead.

I can't say for sure all this is 100% true, but it make sense to me.

Actually, they're keeping the 3DS alive in the meantime so Nintendo can fall back on it if the Switch isn't a success.

Though with every new release it's becoming more and more obvious that the 3DS is showing its age. New games underperform on o3DS and even on n3DS they remove standard console features to save RAM.
