You are not dreaming, it's really real and nobody expect that happened. Nintendo announced the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition (Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe) today as a surprise. This small console includes the console itself (which is a replica of the original NES console) with HDMI output so you can play it on your big TV, an controller (which is also a replica of the original controller) that can also been use for the Wii and Wii U and 30 games including Super Mario Bros., Kirby's Adventure, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man.

Here is the full list of the 30 games

The console will be released in both North America and Europe on November 11th for 60$. The controller will also be sold separatly for 9.99$. The North American version will have an AC adapter, while the European version (including UK) won't have one, but there is a USB port in the box.

Wow you beat me to it. I hate you.

Also it's compatible with the Classic Controller and Wiimote. (Which I rather play on)

I'm just interested in the workings of it and if the ROMs are new revisions .
I have no idea how to reverse engineer a console, but it'd be a good project.

Nice! I've ever wondered how the NES would be like when it returned.

Likely a NES on a chip. Just like all the other 91223498329043820984309283 famiclones out there.

Will there be plans to add more games in the future?
Looks like a cheap cash grab to me, but a very attractive one!

This is apparently LITERALLY a NES VC machine. So won't be long before hackers manage to rip it apart. I hope they put the NTSC 60hz versions on the PAL releases though.

Here are some articles from Nintendo Life.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/07/talking_point_nintendos_nes_classic_edition_is_just_one_way_to_revolutionise_the_virtual_console

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/07/new_nes_mini_console_wont_get_more_games_cartridge_slot_to_remain_shut_for_all_eternity

And no, it won't have internet connection, ability to add more games and will not use cartridges and the cartridge slot will remain shut for all Eternity, but it will have save states like in the VC.

Why did you capitalise 'eternity' in that sentence? ()

Also sounds cheap. I do wish they would release 60Hz games in PAL regions, as the other uer said, especially because early titles weren't optimised properly.

I wish Nintendo would make a console just for VC stuff (like this, but for all other consoles they can licence VC rights for) and it might sell well with the older demographic.

Hiccup: Plus knowing Nintendo they use the last version with random fixes.

Yeah. Though maybe they'll do something interesting like different localisation.

Hiccup: With Zelda, they'll probably give us the updated version of the text from the 3DS VC release.

Come on. Hackers will destroy this thing. How much security can it possibly have? Actually, will it have usb ports/sd ports?

Probably not, as a previous user said, it's probably going to be a Famiclone NES-on-a-chip device.

I don't understand why they won't allow more games though, or transferring your VC collection from other consoles to the Nintenclone.

... Really?

I didn't expect Nintendo to be that lazy. Ah well, just makes it easier for us to play whatever we want on this new console.

I doubt it'd be a NES clone.
A. That's old hardware
B. Save states would presumably be easier with software emulation
