This looks awesome! When does it realese/come out?

When it's ready.

(A very long time)

But a demo should be ready within a few weeks.

It's time for the very first Pic of the Week!

Pic of the Week - Week 1

Here we have another underwater area, but the sand and the pier legs seem to indicate we're close to a beach area. And that's true. If you follow the sand you'll find a pipe which takes you to surface. The pier legs actually match up perfectly with the piers in the beach area above.

I like how you have made overlapping tiles, like with the extra layers in later NSMB games.

I was hoping people would pick up on that. I wanted to make the game feel like it was pushing the boundaries of what's possible in NSMBDS, so if I still had extra space on a tileset I made some overlapping tiles to simulate a NSMBWii effect.

Speaking of overlapping tiles, I wonder why Nintendo didn't put this feature earlier. This would've allow to have beautiful levels without wasting space on a tileset, which is already small...
Anyways, this here is very nice, really, continue with that!

The first thoughts which i got when i heard of this great piece of concept was:
"this is going to be like the Elder scrolls but with at a 2.5D perspective".

When you mentioned at the NSHB thread that you was going to use the star feature at Endless Earth it thought that NSHB and Endless Earth weren't going to be having much difference at the concept and gameplay. And i was right.
When i first made the star model my intention was to make a huge world which had more ways to capture the star from linear to finding and exploring your own way to the chosen goal.

I really like what you managed to devellop so far. I hope you didn't mind that Endless Earth isn't the only mod that has a big twist of gameplay.

Keep it up!

That picture looks great, but I can't decide how I like the design without seeing more.

EDIT:
Not to mention I LOVE the way you are connecting the land properly to the other connected areas

Seems very interesting, and the screenshots look very good as well. So, basically it's going to be a Metroidvania style game, but in NSMB? I have a few questions about that, but I'm sure they'll be answered later on.

I think the term "metroidvania" suits the style of this hack quite well. A fairly accurate summary of my vision for the hack, but there will be a few small differences which will be revealed in due time.

Just a random question, in your underwater pic you posted, you said the wood pillars were maching to the ones at the surface, so will we be able to go to the surface by simply swimming up there, without taking a pipe? Same for the reverse, we could jump in the water and let ourselves sink to acces the underwater section. Even tough it would require a lot of area warps...

Also the first screenshot in the main post is a lil incoherent, we have poisonned water at the surface but normal one 1 meter deeper

Unfortunately that's not possible. It was my original intention for the hack, but the Warp Sprite only allows you to travel to entrances with an ID of 15 or lower. For the size and scope of this world, there are bound to be dozens of entrances in each area, possibly even hundreds. But I have used the Warp Sprite in some rare occasions. It's actually probably for the best. This way the hack retains the primary platformer element of not-falling-into-holes.

I'm aware about the poison water/clean water thing. If I had used clean swimmable water the area would have been too easy (no worrying about falling into it), and it would have made people think that they can just drop down into the underwater area, which for the reason I explained would just kill them.

For future reference, it's both spammy and rude to repost your own posts. I saw your question. I chose not to answer it. You'll find out everything in due time.

Pic of the Week - Week 2

Another Underground image. This time, as you can see I've replaced the placeholder NSMB background with a custom one. The top layer is an edit from a background I used long ago with New Super Mario Bros. 5: Clone Tag Team 2, and the bottom background is an edit of, if memory serves, a background first used in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The tileset is actually meant for a spooky theme but I think it works quite well as an Underground tileset and reminds me of the underground tileset in Yoshi's New Island.

Because this pic of the week didn't really have any new content to show I'm going to make up for it with something extra.

03 - Grassy Plains.mp3

I want the soundtrack in Endless Earth to provide an immersive experience less like the NSMB games and more like the 3D Mario games. So for the basic Grassland theme these I wanted something a bit more subtle to establish the setting as one of the more peaceful environments. This is the music that plays when you first spawn in the Endless Earth. This mp3 is exactly as it will be heard in the game.

Well, I dunno about you.. Either I've played too much paper mario or I think this will suit perfect :p

Don't get me wrong on this, since I think the song you chosen was good, but I think this will suit better xp

btw, the screenshot looks great!

Pic of the Week - Week 3

Two pictures for you this week!

As hinted in Week 1's pic, this is the surface area of the beach. The wooden posts go down to the ocean floor, like I also mentioned in Week 1. As for the graphics, I've ultimately decided that it doesn't matter how original the graphics look. If something fits, it fits. There's no use to making something that doesn't fit right and cram it in for the sake of originality. So NSMBWii/2/U graphics will be used a lot more liberally than my past hacks.

Here we are on the sands of the beach. While the tileset and Top BG originate from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I didn't want to use a similar Cloud BG to the one I spammed while making New Super Mario Advance + Take 2. This cloudy background is actually from Super Mario 64, but I'd say it goes well with the Top BG. Though the Top BG may not be the final version. I'm currently looking for a good rip of NSMBWii's Beach BG.

Speaking of Recent NSMB game graphics, I hope you change the pipes (bit of a running theme here in my recent posts ), I really don't like the look of the NSMB ones, the NSMBW ones are better, but still a bit ugly.

I think the SM64 background fits quite well.

I'm not sure about having a Fire Piranha there, as you can't kill them with shells, which might cause people to get hurt after they thought they defeated it.

You can see new pipes on Pic. 1
And they look good I think.
