If you're here, it's probably because you're wondering how are you supposed to patch them. Well, you're lucky, my friend! Because, today I'm gonna show how import and export (patch and create) an .xdelta patch!

How to import an .xdelta patch:

1. In the patch section, browse through the file explorer and select the patch that you downloaded.
2. As the source file, you should choose a clean NSMB ROM. Don't ask where you should download it...Google is your friend.
3. Finally, in the output section, decide where you want to save the hack. Remember to add the .nds extension, at the end of the name!

Simple, isn't it? Now, let's say, you want to share an .xdelta patch of your hack.

How to export an .xdelta patch:

1. Go on the "Create Patch" tab.
2. The "Original File", again, should be a clean NSMB ROM. Ask Google for it.
3. The "Modified File", instead, should be the NSMB ROM that you hacked. With all the edited levels, graphics, etc.
4. Lastly, as the name implies, in the "Patch Destination" choose where you want to save your patch. Feel free to share it with the community!

There ends the tutorial. I hope it was useful!

I think I should say this. Many, many people get the invalid checksum thing. This is because with Xdelta, it practically has to be the same rom to patch.

My recommendation is to try other roms until you get one that works. This problem used to plague me in older days, but I finally understood why it gave me that error.

Also another recommendation is, use a clean NSMB rom from the most well known sites (usually the first google search link) and to avoid using roms that has been released by a release team.

I think i saw this in the Arceus's hack thread;

Always, Patch a ROM that never has been opened by NSMBe.

May sound stupid, but I don't know how to use that patching software that came in the .zip

Use for lesson's media.

So now, Let's start!

Step 1:
Extract your zip first, then open xdeltaUI.exe

Step 2:
Follow 1st arrow.
(Click on first Open button. )
Then choose your .xdelta file (where you extracted it)
Then the box should be filled by paths.

Step 3:
Follow 2nd arrow.
(Click on second Open button. )
Then choose your clean, fresh and original (U) rom as  gridatttack said. (Don't ask where!)

Step 4:
Lastly, Follow the 3rd arrow. (the ... button)
Choose where do you want to save your patched rom. (preferred easy-to-find place.)
Then click Patch

Step 5:
However, the product, as you see, it's not having any extension. , so you just rename it then add .nds at the back.
Then finished! Enjoy!

Confusing how step N is arrow N-1

Anyway, we should probably add something like this to How to import and export patches!, questions about xDelta patches pop up way too much...

You're patching the incorrect version of the rom.

Once again I say we should move away from xdelta and switch over to BPS which is way easier to use IMO

It is against the rules of the forum to share copyrighted material like that. Patches are not difficult, just post your problem if you need help.

Still I think xDelta is better (at least good enough to not need a replacement), and easy to use when you know how to do it.

Yeah. I totally agree with you. Everyone should randomly post copyrighted material in public. Best idea ever. [just to make the sarcasm obvious enough if it wasn't already]

I have no problem with xDelta patches if you ask me, and you can still make simple .nmps for non-ASM hacks.

I mean I removed the nintendo copywrite and the levels are completely different...

No. Distributing ROMs is illegal.

And just because you removed that copyright notice, suddenly it's yours?

Well I'm going to take Windows, remove Microsoft's copyright, and claim I made a new OS.

Even if you made new levels, the game still belongs to Nintendo. The game engine you're using was made by them. And it still belongs to them. Removing the copyright notice doesn't make you magically own the game, it just makes you an asshole.

We don't care how users get their ROMs (it is possible to get them legally, I already did it), that is entirely up to them.

Thing is, generally the people who download ROMs don't get in trouble. The ones Nintendo goes after are those who distribute the ROMs.

This is why we insist that users don't post ROM links or share ROMs via the board.

What  Arisotura said. I once broke to demand and uploaded a pre-patched ROM of Clone Tag Team, and I was lucky enough to be given the chance to just delete the file with no repercussions. Piracy ain't a joke.

? What is it a joke?

Not only this is not a joke, but furthermore it is an ironclad rule, more precisely rule number 1.4 on the FAQ that you have supposedly read since the board automatically forces you on that page when registering.

Anyways every time a download link to a ROM is posted, usually the whole post containing the link is deleted in the next hours.
But pretty sure that the very act of repeatedly asking for ROMs or repeatedly uploading them constitutes a bannable offense*.

You don't want to get banned do you?

*For the staff: it does? Sorry if I'm spreading misinformation.
