Probably a dumb question, but since the hub world and the unlimited levels, we haven't discussed about the World Themes anymore. Are we still going with an Autumn Grassland 'World' as the first world for now?

Just to make sure if I'm going to make a level.

Yeah, the overworld is going to be trashed entirely, so we're free to do whatever we want. In fact we don't have the "world" concept anymore.

It's much like Super Mario 64. A hub world that leads to many levels. Think that way, instead of the classic Mario Bros worlds.


On topic of Mario 64-style gameplay, would we be able to give our levels names like in Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U?

Edit: By the way. About the contest levels. I think we should take the top 3 and scatter them around the hack, depending on their difficulty. Anyone disagree?

That would be epic, but wouldn't it look a bit ugly with the Standard DS Text? Or what do you mean with rendering text?

If what you want is printing text on the worldmap, you can use BG1 to BG3. You could load your own font, or one of the game's fonts, somewhere in the ABG VRAM (there's plenty of free VRAM), draw to your background of choice, and set said background to overlap the 3D layer.

It does not look bad at all!
Still, it could need some improvement.
  • Those Solid Pyramid Blocks are placed way to repetive. Try to place them a bit more irregular and it will lok better.
  • The Pillars you did there would look better, if you would remove those seperating lines. Just make them one tile instead of 4 seperated blocks.
  • Only use two or three different types of sprites at maximum in one level. A level should never be overloaded with different types sprites.


I will add you as maker of that level soon. Not now, since I gotta sleep now.

1. I will try to work on that!
2.Already did that after posting that image.
3.The Amps, spiked balls and Fire Snakes are all the enemys in that secion.

Probabally wont be able to work on it more today but tomorrow I should be able to finish it.

Oh, by the way. Are there even going to be castles in the Community Remix?

When we were discussing the Hub World, we were talking about a Castle setting, so having a Castle Level in a Castle seems pretty redundant.

We ought to get this out of the way.

Well, I'd say the hub will be something like Peach's castle. Boss levels can be castle levels or something weird-ish like in SM64. Dunno.

Sorry bro, but I don't like it either.

1. It's lazy.
2. It's unoriginal.
3. It's not hard enough for a World 8 level.
4. It really doesn't fit World 8.
5. Wii Tileset.
6. Backwards levels don't work well.
7. Needs original graphics.
