I've been making some improvements over the last few days, so it's time for a new build!
- Z-index of objects doesn't get screwed up when undoing
- Objects can be moved in the z-index (only to front and back for now)
- Added a new way of creating path nodes (select and node and press the buttons to either side of it)
- Fixed a bunch of bugs with moving past the edge of the level
- Made some improvements to the undo system
- Probably some other stuff

New build: b349!

I've implemented an auto-backup system that will create backups of the levels you are currently editing. This way you won't lose all of your changes in case of a crash or whatever.

In general, I would expect the mouse wheel to scroll the level vertically not zoom, so I don't think it's a good idea to change it. I might make it so Ctrl+Mouse Wheel will zoom the level though, because that is much more standard.

Wow, it's been over 5 months since the last NSMBe build was published. I've finally gotten around to fixing some of the bugs and implementing some of the suggestions that have been posted here recently. They can be found in the most recent version of NSMBe (b376). Here's what's new:

Fixed fixed Making very high view makes an exception
Added full screen (implemented Full- Screen)
Fixed some language problems
Added zoom in/zoom out with + and - keys
Added scrolling with WASD
Fixed zooming scrollbar bug
Added "Sprites in Level" category (implemented "Sprites In Level" Category)
Added "Enabled in sprite sets" category (implemented More sprite set-related information (see details))
Removed sprite data auto-update checkbox because it didn't do anything anyway
Moved spritedata.xml back into the NSMBe program directory

You can actually just check the game code to find out the region. Open your ROM in NSMBe, go to the File Browser tab, select header.bin and click Hex Edit. The top line on the right side should read NEW MARIO...XXXX. The four Xs are the game code

A2DE = North America
A2DP = Europe
A2DJ = Japan
A2DK = Korea

I guess the transparent color in the palette was actually a transparent white, so the importer thought that transparent was the best match for white. Fixed by ignoring the transparent color when matching colors.

Fixed. When importing an image, NSMBe would always generate a new palette with 256 colors even when the palette didn't have that much space.

I'm not sure what you did wrong there. I just tried it myself and it worked fine.

Here's the image file I used. Make sure you open the bitmaps in the same order I specified and ensure that View in 4bpp format is checked.

If you still can't get it to work, here are the files with your icons in them.
UI_O_1P_course_select_d.nce.bncd
UI_O_1P_course_select_o_ud_ncl.bin
UI_O_1P_course_select_u_ncg.bin

Thanks for the list, I added it to NSMBe and made a few changes to the wording on the 4x4 circle which I think makes it easier to understand.

So, luckwii brought to my attention that it would be a good idea to delete the sprite data for a sprite when it is changed to a new type, thus resetting all data to the default. This sounds like a good idea because the new sprite type will most likely not have any of the same sprite data as the previous type. And in the case that it does, all sprite data can easily be copied using the raw sprite data text box.

My question is, would this be more of a help or a hindrance to editing?

if you see something that's broken that wasn't before, just tell me

Lots of layouts are now broken (mine for example).

Yeah, I agree...
The sidebar's full of useless information

I should probably make the "Last post/view" stuff as a plugin and disable it

Definitely. The "Last post", "Last view", and "Since" could easily be information that is just visible on a person's profile (as well as how many users have blocked my layout, I'm not sure why I need to see that on every post).

Yes! You should definitely continue. It's obviously up to you if you want to finish, but you have done some great things in NSMB hacking and I would love to see a completed hack from you. Also, just because people don't post in the thread doesn't mean we don't read every post in it

Here's my layout. I sketched it up in about an hour's worth of work in Inkscape, and I like how it looks.

But what do you guys think of it?

I like it. It's made with the layout maker and the background image is pretty simple, but it's effective and works well together. Besides, if the background was too complex it would distract from the post contents. The style you've drawn the goomba in is really nice too.

You know that angle of m?XYZ is 180°, and so,

m?WYX + m?UYW + m?ZYU = 180°

Also, because of the bisecting angles you know that,

m?UYW = m?ZYU

Using that knowledge, you can write

180° = m?WYX + m?ZYU * 2

Substitute the expressions given for m?WYX and m?ZYU and solve for b

180° = 2(12b + 7) + (9b - 1) * 2
180° = 24b + 14 + 18b - 2
180° = 42b + 12
b = 4°
Since m?UYW = m?ZYU you can substitute and find that m?UYW = 9b - 1

Insert the value of b found before and you will get the answer

m?UYW = 9 * 4° - 1
m?UYW = 35°
Hope this helps!
