Please!

I'm very hard to decide which image modifier I should use, between Photoshop and Gimp. So I make a survey about people's likes. Note that it's meant for all version, in another word, we're talking in overall. And it's OK for the price decision, why? See my second post.
And beware, the main purpose of this survey is to get some opinions and suggestions between the two. Not show off your loving one and disdain another.
Please participate, because I'm not good at all about these things. I'm new to it.

Thank you very much.

I'd say GIMP, because GIMP is free (both as in free beer and as in freedom).

Gimp 100% for me

For 3 reasons:
- It's free software
- It works on Linux and Windows
- It is as good as Photoshop (at least on what I use it for)

I use it for making tilesets and BGs, more art for games, and for fixing photos sometimes
And it's very powerful. I haven't used Photoshop a lot, bur as far as I can tell GIMP is awesome.
Some say that it's difficult to learn to use, but it's not for me. So probably once you know how stuff works, you'll love GIMP

Oh, that's true.
Free conquers all!
I've forgot to tell ya, that I've both of them installed on my PC. So I can use them instantly if I want to. But I've to decide which.

I've tried to use it several times, mostly learning on my own. ( Yep, if something's gone wrong, just undo. ) And I find it's easy to learn and practice in basic techniques.
Photoshop is tricky sometimes but it's quite powerful and well too. Hmmmm

I also go with GIMP.
It's faster, and much more easier to use that Photoshop. Photoshop has basically become bloatware in the latest versions (Another reason why Adobeo's going downhill).

In my opinion Adobe makes the best programs. I tried Gimp once and never want to make my fingers dirty on it again. I think Photoshop is much more powerful (Probably I just didn't find the options in Gimp) and it seems much clearer to me.
Also I don't think Gimp is faster than Photoshop. Photoshop just works fine. I would only use Gimp if I ran Linux or if I didn't know how to crack Photoshop.

I am of the same opinion with Premiere and different Video programs. I just like Premiere more.

I've tried both and I love GIMP, but I think Photoshop is better. Here are a some reasons I like Photoshop better:
  • Layer groups which can be masked
  • Vector masks
  • Smart layers
  • Doesn't use a windowed interface
  • Brush stroke smoothing
  • Lots of brush dynamics
  • Warping
  • Much more flexible text tool
  • Layer styles
  • It's the standard software that people make brushes, patterns, etc. for
  • Layers are automatically fit to the contents of the layer
  • 3D

I still recommend trying GIMP because it's free and is still a very powerful image editor, I just think Photoshop is better.

I'd say gimp.
Why? Because it's free, and I think it's much friendlier.

"Doesn't use a windowed interface"

Actually, there is an option in the GIMP 2.7 development builds for single-window mode. It's really nice.

Many people considered Gimp is better, hmm, mostly their main opinion is because it's free. BTW going through their specification is wanted to.

Awesome! I'm definitely going to have to update. That was the main thing that bugged me about GIMP.

For some things you have listed  Piranhaplant, I would probably use a combination of tools (eg Blender for 3D).

And Gimp 2.8-RC1 is already out... lol

Yay! Single-window mode is so awesome . It also has layer groups (finally), better text editing, and comes with python-fu!

Excuse me, who has got another recommendation? (Which's neither Photoshop nor Gimp )
LOL I think Gimp would be the winner.

Paint.net is the best!

Depends.

If you want to do more advanced things, you have to use something like GIMP.
