I don't know how you make your tilesets always so awesome.
It seems to me, that you use really much filters, don't you? I started using filters only at the end of my desert tileset, when I did the background tiles. Filters are really useful.

EDIT: I would like to make a snowy level, is anyone working on a tileset? Is there even going to be snowy levels?

I think so. Snow is a really important Level theme. So, anybody willing to make such a Tileset?

I made one like two years ago which was quite awesome... BUT I lost it
It was based on the original tileset, though. So, not original.

I will make one sometime soon

I've made an example for a snow tileset, if people like it I'll keep working on it.

Hmmm
The colors look very pastel-ish (very light), we should try to get more contrast...
Also I recommend you use a more advenced image editor like GIMP or (urgh) Photoshop

EDIT3: Ok, I decided upon opening the tiles up in GIMP to darken them because it seemed no matter what I did, when I uploaded an image it showed up pale.

Really Old Version

I've basically finished the tileset already. What does everyone think?

May I make the Castle tileset? (1,32,41,45)

And MarioFanatic, that's great, except for the ice cubes. The texture of ice in them.

EDIT: And also, we're going to need to change the animation that occurs when Mario gets in a Castle boss door, because I'm doing a custom Castle boss door in the tileset.

I think if you put the bushes green and put them snow on the top, it will look very nice!

MiguelMML and  CreativiPie, I did the changes you suggested.

I blurred the texture of the Ice so it doesn't look grainy, and gave the bushes some green so they look snow-capped instead of pure snow.

I haven't put the new Ice texture behind the sloped yet, though.

Looks nice. But is there some kind of solid ice block?

Also the pure snow bushes could be in the second palette

Hmhm it certainly looks better with the recolor but I still don't like it.

The bushes that are a recolor of the originals just need to go away, we want to have as much original content as possible

Also the colors still look very weird... I'm not sure why, but it doesn't have the "NSMB" feeling. It feels more like a SMB3 tileset or something.

And the ice block... It doesn't look like ice

No offense then, but I get the feeling there's a double standard. The HSDB tileset is just an edit of the NSMB Grassland, the Ice tiles in your underground tileset are slightly recoloured from the original game, and the SMB3 Hills are well, from SMB3.

It's funny you say that. The palette I was originally using was from the NSMBWii Snow tileset.

We included the HSDB tileset because we were going to reuse levels. Also there are the contest levels that used it. I didn't redraw the ice in the underground tileset for lazyness: if someone ends up using it, I'll redraw it. And the SMB3 tileset is drawn from scratch by me.

That green you use for the wavey parts is a pretty ugly color, and the desaturated blue that's supposed to compliment it only makes it look uglier. It's hard to tell what you're trying to go for, but I assume that you are trying to take the default grasslands style and make it look 'cold.' If that's what you're doing, you should just colorize that to be a monochrome light blue color with a medium amount of contrast between the wave and the background. Your ice blocks don't look 'slippery' at all. Take a look at the ice blocks from Mario 3. Notice how they have a very solid light blue background with stripes of white. They give the appearance of reflecting light, which is what very slippery ice does.

Also the tileset is missing interesting decorations. Consider adding in some trees without leaves, snow-covered fences, piles of snowballs, snowmen, snow-covered pine trees, etc.

Let me add that even if it's a cold theme, not all colors need to be cold.
For example a brown ground works well, as seen in the original snow tilesset.

Also you added too much shading to the wavy things I think...
In the other tilesets they're flat.

EDIT 2:

Download NMT:http://nsmbhd.net/get.php?id=1029

There's a castle window and some new tiles. To see how it is more clearly, look at the NMT.

Suggestions?

Ok, But still the HSDB tileset and SMB3 Hills don't have much original content, regardless.

Like I said before, it was the using palette of the NSMBWii Snow tileset but Dirbaio insisted I darken it. I did not recolour it at all, that's what it turned out like when I darkened it.

Your ice blocks don't look 'slippery' at all. Take a look at the ice blocks from Mario 3. Notice how they have a very solid light blue background with stripes of white. They give the appearance of reflecting light, which is what very slippery ice does.

I was basing the ice blocks off of the Ice from the other NSMB games, like NSMB2. I could have placed reflective white streaks on it but depending on how big the size of the Ice block in-game the same line pattern over and over would be an eyesore (not to mention unrealistic).

Also the tileset is missing interesting decorations. Consider adding in some trees without leaves, snow-covered fences, piles of snowballs, snowmen, snow-covered pine trees, etc.

I would have loved to put stuff like that in, but there is simply not enough place in the tileset for it. I had to make the slopes going both ways (rather than simply flipping it in the editor) because the ground pattern wouldn't line up properly. And have you tried making 3D-looking scenery with pixel art? Not fun.

Either way, it's obvious what I'm doing isn't good enough for the Community Remix so I'm just going to stop trying. I don't want to keep going round and round in circles with this, so I'm just going to stick to levels. Tilesets are really not worth my time, I've learned.

MarioFanatic64: I really like the top tiles of your tileset. (The snow that is covering the blocks)
I just don't like the fill blocks. I will try to repaint them, though I will probably fail.
