...but the code hacks in question aren't released, so you can't use those graphics at all unless you build your hack off of Newer DS.

You can use Goombas and koopas because they don't use separate palettes. You can find them in root/obj called kuribo and nokonoko

won't the palettes for the boos be messed up then

oh, right, I forgot skawo didn't change the enemy palette (which is why he ended up making that code hack, he didn't know how to change the palette without messing something up)

I extracted the koopas and goombas from Newer Ds and put it in my hack. Pretty simple.

You can also use boos without messing up the entire enemy palette.
I replaced the unused colors of the palette with the ones the boo uses and this is the result:
