The cat's out of the bag- after all this time, all my unwarranted attempts to hype this project up have finally come to this moment- the reveal and release of my fourth hack.

New Super Mario Advance is a complete remake of the NES's Super Mario Bros. 2 in NSMB. In this remake, the "unusual" gameplay of this fan favourite Mario game has been combined with the classic Mario elements that comes along with NSMB. On top of this, there are also alternate season variants for levels to rejuvenate all too familiar levels. Of course, there are original levels in this hack too, y'know.

But that's not all New Super Mario Advance is- just watch the trailer.

I really loved the trailer and it looks really awesome. I might try this same concept with Tanooki Adventure. I really have to give this hack a shot.

Looks great! I was off by a mile with my guess, though I did get the multi-game remake thing right.

EDIT:
Sparky.nsbmd
little present for you

Replaces spike top, only to be used by MF64 unless he says otherwise.

Cool, thanks! I'll probably use it when it's time for an update.

Uhm... good point.

I was trying to get the eyes to look in the direction it was moving, but it didn't work well, so I had to put them sideways.

I may actually give the Fuzzies and Sparkies another try soon, I have a better idea.

I don't know how to say, but...it blow my mind away. But sadly, my nds turn to no good. So I need buy 3ds flashcart that support my 3ds. Not Sky3ds or Gateway. Just only support ds game. I will post here for feedback for your hack.

One thing though MF64, you may want to create another door on the jyotyu tileset with the solid-on-top behavior

One week later, this hack had some pretty interesting stats. The hack has a faster download rate than Clone Tag Team 2 in it's first week. The trailer already received more likes on youtube than the CTT2 trailer has done in six months. What's the most surprising is that there was absolutely zero hype for this hack.

I'm amazed, but it's also a learning experience. Apparently, people don't want original levels. They want the same thing they played a hundred times before.

Well, I never really did get into the first one, so I though take 2 would be a good way for be to revisit a bad classic.

It shouldn't come out as a surprise though, NSMB3 has already proved that.

I think the problem is that a hack doesn't have the "Nintendo Seal of Quality" so to speak, so good luck trying to bring replayability value in play, UNLESS it is a remake of a well known game.

Let's be honest a second here, it takes advertising, hype and something like Newer SMB Wii to please the crowd nowadays, as such the bar is simply set too high for such a commitment like making a whole non-remake hack by yourself asks for.

Masses simply work like that, they like to be hyped for something, they don't like too much when that something comes out of the blue unannounced even if it has potential.
Yeah I can already see the "Muuhuh it's because you set yourself for disappointment", and I would respond "What's the point in making a hack if no one is going to play it ?"

In my case, it's the opposite. I prefer original content to just plain remakes. Maybe it's because the first hack I played was New Super Mario Bros. 3 and its Star Coins were exceedingly out of the way, to the point that to this day I will throw myself into a pit in NSMB hacks just to see if it's a hidden path to a Star Coin.

Then again, what stopped me from playing that particular hack was the Pipe Maze that was 1-A.

NSMB3 is possibly the best example of terrible level design you will find. You should not have to commit suicide to discover star coins. Nintendo doesn't make you do that.

Is it possible to pull the turnips on the ground like in Super Mario Bros. 2?

Otherwise, I like this hack.

No. Because it's impossible to make you able to.

Without years worth of ASM experience, that is.

If anybody has any interest in developmental process of this hack, the hack's new wiki page details everything from the hack's origins to the release.

I guess people might be interested maybe.

This isn't any indication of an imminent update. Just something to show that I'm looking for things to add to the hack in the future

Thanks to SaturnYoshi who provided a nice SMB2 door texture and Sharks for the idea of making Solid-on-Top behaviors for doors like these.
