Does anyone know what settings will make DeSmuME run the fastest on NSMB?

Just wondering.

DESMUME is hasnt the fault. It is the performance of the PC/laptop.
On my laptob it is slow too, but on a friends laptop, it runs that fast, like on a real DS. He has an "Intel Core i5" Processor)

So, do you use No$GBA then? Or do you use a physical DS?

I have a Latitude D620, 4GB of RAM, Dual-Core CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz. On the overworld map, I get 28 FPS

But my Dad's Lenovo W520 runs at 60 FPS, no matter what game, or whatever you do. It's not fair!

with 1.6 GHz you can forget it.. My has 2.2 and it runs nevertheless slow. So I use No$gba to test all my hacks^^

I'm not saying that I want 60 FPS on my computer, I just want to know the settings that will make DeSmuME run the fastest.

Some settings will make DeSmuME run slower, and some settings will improve performance.

Yeah, my laptop is a "business notebock", that's battery holds 7 hours. But it's performance is not good. 1.33 GHz.
But my notebook is really easy portable.

The setting which will improve desmumes performance doesnt matter. They are so little that wont be run faster ;D

Hmm...

Nevermind then.
But I'm not going to use No$GBA. I don't like small, closed-source projects.

yeah, I use DESMUME too, alothough it is terribly slow.
I just dont like no$gba, because you can't:
-Make Videos there
-Graphic Bugs
-Some games are lagging
-Sound is shit.

DeSmuME runs at a decent speed here (hello core i7 though).

You can try the following things:
* in Emulation settings, there's stuff like 'advanced bus timing', try disabling it, may speed things up
* try using the OpenGL renderer, though it generally makes no difference against the software renderer and renders transparency effects too dim
* stuff in the sound options may speed up emulation, too
* if all else fails, try good ol' frameskip

If desmume is still slow as shit, you have to go with NO$GBA. (or you also have iDeaS and its fucked up sound, or the outdated yet fast NeonDS)

OpenGL renderer just makes things slower...

That's in no$gba.
In no$gba, the nocash engine is the fastest (though it's glitchy as hell)
In desmume, it's best to use OpenGL renderer instead of the SoftRasterizer one.

I have to use the software renderer, as the OpenGL renderer is horribly broken in WINE.

(Yeah I have tried the Linux versions of DeSmuME, but they limit the frame rate incorrectly, causing it to go either too fast or too slow.)
If anyone could fix that, please do so

You're using Ubuntu to do this, right?

Well, as you can see in my earlier post, I'm running a Latitude D620 with Windows, and a Quadro NVS 110M with NVIDIA's driver (I hacked a new one onto my system, and compared it against the driver made for my card, and they are the same), and OpenGL ALWAYS makes emulation slower while in a level. But on the overworld, OpenGL beats SoftRasterizer by 1-3 FPS. There's hardly any difference.

I'm not quite sure what's causing a big slowdown for you Dirbaio, with SoftRasterizer.

Nope, in Windows too. OpenGL is fastest for me.
Probably a driver speed issue. I dunno.

Hmm... that's strange.

Are you building your own DeSmuME builds? I find that the pre-built builds of DeSmuME are faster than my builds because I suspect that they use Intel's C++ compiler to compile the builds. I'm pretty sure it's the case because DeSmuME has a project file for the Intel C++ compiler, and Intel's C++ compiler is known to generate faster machine code than Microsoft's.

And, do you use GCC to compile DeSmuME on Ubuntu?

I haven't compiled desmume on ubuntu.
And yep, I'm using MSVC++.

Ohh...

Maybe sometime you should try to get the Intel C++ compiler trial, and compile DeSmuME. Maybe you'll have a big FPS boost!

So many replies and not a sngle mentioned the FRAMESKIP option (or I have overseen it)

Even on my computer with a QAD CORE[4x2,83] + GTX 288 + 8GB Ram, I had fight with slow motion issues!
Only in my own hack, in soe levels!

Got an FPS from 4 in some "sprite-full" courses!
Just set the FRAMEKIP on 1 or whatever!
Even the title runs at 60 FPS now

PS, get the newest REV! And never use the 64Bit version, it's way slower!!
