Hi! I'm a total noob to all this ROM-Hacking biz, so I got some questions!( I will use Windows 10 for hacking.) Also a couple of questions for PLAYING hacks!

•Apart from NSMBe, what do I need?

•How do I apply patches to my NSMB ROM?

•What are your tips for a filthy scrub beginner?

•How do I get a ROM from my computer ONTO my 3DS so I can play on original hardware?

All you need is NSMBe, Desmume, and a rom. That's it! Some advanced hacking will require other tools, like Devkitpro for ASM hacking.

Depends on what type of patch you have. There's 2 types: .nmp and .xdelta. You can apply nmp patches with NSMBe, but for xdetla patches, you'll need XdeltaUI. This little tool can be found in various places on the web. What's the difference? Well, only Xdelta can transfer code changes to the game. ASM hacks, basically.

You'll have to homebrew your 3DS. Lots of people don't do this but it's possible. There's tons of tutorials on youtube and websites on how to homebrew your 3DS.

I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks! This is all very helpful!

When I said ONTO my 3ds, I was more looking for how to get the files on a cart... maybe I should have phrased better.
Not to say I won't look into homebrew, but that IS what I meant.
Still though, thanks for the advice, I can't wait to get cracking!

I have a flash cart, could I put the patched ROM's onto that?

You're totally welcome! I have never used flashcards so I'm afraid I cannot help you with that.

Yes, but you need to have a microsd reader because you have to put roms there.

Ooh, um... I know I'm going to sound super beginner, but what do I do with Densume and the ROM? Densume is an emulation tool - do you mean I need it to play other hacks, or that it is part of the development process?
If it's development, what do I do with it?

Desmume can be used for both. It can play various DS games, and it can be used for testing levels in your ROM.
