Pretty sure I didn't do anything wrong... the bg worked fine on all my other desert levels.

Make your stage a little bit higher, I think that should work. Also welcome! Haven't seen you around here!

EDIT: Never mind you have your stage very high, you should lower it more.

you cannot make huge levels with some backgrounds like these, that doesn't loop right vertically.

Except the level outline in the editor doesn't seem to indicate it being very vertical. At best, it's about as tall as 2-2.

I lowered the level to 16 blocks high and now the pyramids dissappeared entirely. Very strange...
And thanks, I'm pretty new to NSMB hacking. I hope to get better at it soon lol

No. 2 is the background used in the cannon of world 2, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be used in higher views. Try another background like No. 6 for example.

Yeah, I was going to point that out too, but I tried what he did in 2-4, it worked fine for me in 1-4.

Tried no. 6 on both bg layers and changed the tileset to Desert no. 6 too. The same result as the first screenshot.
The only difference between desert bg 2 and 6 is that 2 has a blue sky, 6 has a yellow sky.

Maybe it's just the level 2-4 itself? I'll figure something out, even if it means changing the bg entirely. Ty all for the help

If you can, try unticking "enable vertical scrolling".

That might be the case.

My last suggestion: Import another level into 2-4. And I mean export it as .nmp and import it into the 2-4 slot. Then try if the desert bg works. If not, you have to use a vertical background like No. 4 for example

Okay, so the issue is the level 2-4 itself. I imported 2-1 and the bg worked fine both 16 blocks high and 16+ blocks high.
I'll just have to make it into a sky level with a looping bg of some sort or maybe try putting the main part of the level in Area 2.

Thank you all for the help

Edit: Just found out that Area 1 has to be the spawn area. Guess I'll stick with plan A...

So was it an issue with the 2-4 slot, or the 2-4 level? I.e. if you import your working level into 2-4, does it work?

iirc, importing a level into 2-4 works. In other words it's the level, not the slot.
I just didn't wanna remake the entire level from scratch then import it.
