Well, Christmas is nearing... and, yeah, really exciting. So I thought I'd make a thread about it as it is getting closer and closer, and I swear somebody will make a thread before me if I don't make this one. So, just discuss mainly about the holiday here, like the presents your hoping to receive and things your going to be doing.

The most people at our country (The Netherlands) celebrate 'Sinterklaas'.
I don't know how you should speak that in English.
The word 'Sinterklaas' seems like 'Santa Claus', but it isn't the same.

Some people (I don't know how much) don't celebrate Christmas...
Although, the most people put down a Christmas tree.

Well in the Netherlands "Sinterklaas" is celebrated on the 5th december. In Germany/Austria/Switzerland/... we also celebrate it, but on the 6th december. Here it is called "Nikolaus". I have heard that Santa Claus is just a fake of Sinterklaas.

We celebrate 'Sinterklaas' (today, yay) and Christmas at home.
Still prefer Christmas over 'Sinterklaas' though, while Christmas seems more like a real holiday (free from school, with your family) Sinterklaas seems like, an excuse for presents, atleast at my home. We also don't celebrate it with the whole family, like we do with Christmas.

That being said, I'm really looking forward to Christmas. I probably was since summer holidays have ended just because it's in my eyes the most exciting holiday.

In Australia, Christmas is in the summer. It makes for some interesting traditions that the rest of the world don't have. For example, my family gets together at someone's house and have am all-day barbeque in the backyard.

For us Canadians, it's in winter. We don't celebrate particular holidays, just Christmas.

I hope it'll snow enough this year!

Same for us Frenchs.

But Christmas in summer would be fun.

And Christmas at the beach would be awesome. =D

At the Netherlands, Santa Claus's name is 'de Kerstman'.
If you would translate that name literally to English,
he's name would be 'the Christmas Man'.

Personally, I could not imagine Christmas during summer. For me Christmas has always been special because of sitting in the living room, while drinking tea/cocoa, eating christmas biscuits and not having to go outside into the cold cold winter.
During christmas everything is so nice and this time of the year always raises my mood.

I used to go playing outside with the snow and making snowmen and stuff. But that was years, years ago. I am too old to be happy because I built a snowman. Still, I really like the snowy landscape and love to go out to the nature, especially into the forests.
