Copy and paste but we need to listen and fight
Hey everyone, the chairman of the FCC is very likely to announce a vote to gut neutrality, possibly as soon as this week. Once a vote is called, it will become much, much harder to stop ISPs from charging us all extra fees to access sites like reddit, github, here, YouTube, and everywhere, and they can demand payment from websites or services for any reason, stifling independent voices... Like going to possibly offensive website or a small website (like this) Better pay up. But there’s still hope. The most effective way to can stop this is by driving as many calls as possible to our Senators and Representatives, now through Nov. 22nd. We're getting word that there are lawmakers who are sympathetic to our cause and considering taking action to slow the FCC down, but they won’t act unless they get more phone calls from constituents. Also, if your think your Rep's opposed to net neutrality, its all the more reason to call them. Those Reps need to hear your voice more than anyone. Please, head over to https://www.battleforthenet.com , and give your Senators and Reps a call telling them to stop the FCC from slashing Title II net neutrality protections. The time to act is now. To reach the call in line directly by phone, call 202-930-8550. When you get through to your Rep's office, introduce yourself, be polite, and say: I support "Title Two" net neutrality rules and I urge you to oppose the FCC's plan to repeal them. Specifically, I'd like you to contact the FCC Chairman and demand he abandon his current plan. We also have ready-made banners, modals, and graphics of various sizes here: https://www.battleforthenet.com/#join Thanks. |

*sigh
It's things like these that make me want to move to Europe, where things make sense. I already told a bunch of people about this, so I hope we can make a difference. At least if net neutrality does get canceled, we would be able to go outside. (Did you know? Sunlight burns things) |

(Did you know? Sunlight burns things) In all seriousness though I think this may be affecting other countries anyways. While it may start here it will soon spread everywhere and lots of sites with USA connections (even just users from the USA), could be effected. |

Shame the 90% of internet users who aren't in the US can't do a thing about the it, even though this will inevitably impact the internet on an international scale, be it America thinking they can control everything, or other countries letting America control everything.

Posted by TriangularFish hopefully this website won't be blocked This website won't be blocked. All the ISPs will do is make popular websites more expensive to access, if I've done my research correctly. Anyway, there's always VPNs :p _________________________ hey look, I did a thing |

We failed.
Edit: at least the war is not yet over. I still have hope that the Supreme Court can shut it down. If not, were screwed. |

Well instantly after the vote, this person (I forgot who and am to lazy to look it up) instantly filed a lawsuit against the FCC for gutting Net Neutrality. Also some people in the Senate right now are filing cases to overturn the decision. |

I don‘t know if it‘s his fault, but Trump is pretty much ruining America. What‘s even funny is that it happened that same day that Disney aquired 21st Century Fox for 52 billion Dollars.

What a ban can cause:
CON: you have to pay more money to visit popular sites or you cant access them at all because the provider hates it (e.g. Spotifiy can only be used with 100kbit/s but the providers music streaming works well) CON: every page could be slowed down if they dont pay (what COULD affect this site aswell) PRO: Life important connections (e.g. doctors making an important operation via internet and robots, what is actually possible) now work without lag (But as far as I know there are already exceptions that include Life Saving without ping, but i dont know for sure) What no ban can cause: CON: Life Saving may lag (but as i said, im pretty sure that they dont have this problem , also those things dont make a huge percentage of the internet traffic, so they shouldnt have those lag problems if they have a good-enough internet connection) PRO: You can use every website, every Social Network and everything else without fearing that your provider will shut it down. """Article 19 Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.""" ~Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19 MYCONCLUSION: When I think about this article, I always think "Doesn't killing netneutrality violate human rights?". And even If experts say, the answer is "No.", we all should think about this. Killing netneutrality doesnt give us anything. Its only good for money-makers (providers) to make more money. Posted by MarioFanatic64 Shame the 90% of internet users who aren't in the US can't do a thing about the it, even though this will inevitably impact the internet on an international scale, be it America thinking they can control everything, or other countries letting America control everything. As far as I know, the only thing slowing down would be the connection of your provider. As far as I know, I (in Germany) wont be affected until Germany decides to kill NetNeutrality too. (but as i said, im not sure. Everyone who knows better should please tell me) And even if NetNeutrality in USA doesnt directly affect me over in Germany: We all have to fight for this. This isn't only a fight for Americans but for all Internet Users. Taking away this important thing, this (i would call it) human right can't be ignored or accepted. _________________________ previously (un)known as BooChewbaca |

Posted by StapleButter the ban will actually not be that long. I just find that a post that a) supports "economy before everything else!" mindset and b) has that dickish "I don't care about what you say" tone is a bad combo. I dont agree with GalacticPirate but banning someone for his opinion is as wrong as dont using arguments. This debate depends on communication and discussion and banning everyone with another opinion doesn't help. _________________________ previously (un)known as BooChewbaca |
